Democratic National Committee chairman Howard Dean came to Austin Tuesday to rally Democrats.
"We are going to take back Texas. And we're going to do it before we take back other states we've lost the last 15-20 years," Dean said during the rally.
The former Presidential candidate fired up the troops at Scholz Garten in downtown Austin.
Dean predicts statewide and nationally Democrats will make big gains in November. He says between the war in Iraq and deficit, the Republicans have taken the country in the wrong direction.
"Operation Desert Fox was the military codename for a major four-day bombing campaign on Iraqi targets from December 16-December 19, 1998 by the United States and United Kingdom. These strikes were undertaken in response to Iraq's continued failure to comply with United Nations Security Council resolutions as well as their interference with United Nations Special Commission inspectors."
How did THAT bombing campaign mean we could've killed Osama Bin Laden? Was OBL in Iraq?
In Austin, a condom giveaway would have the same effect.
LLS
They're just hoping they can keep the Democrat candidate for Governor (Chris Bell, the same guy who filed the ethics charge against Tom DeLay in the House) to KEEP FROM COMING IN FOURTH!!!
Two independent candidates are outpolling the Dem!
One is a Dem-turned-Republican-turned-independent.
And the other is musician Kinky Friedman who has Democrats and Greens coming out to support him (although he also draws conservative and libertarian support). His staff and public endorsements seem to come from known lefties.
Talk about a tough crowd .(sarc)
A neo-Com stirring about an Austin crowd is about like saying a bar in Salt Lake City is the hottest spot in town because it's crowded with every drunk from miles around.
Aren't you too old for Sixth Street? Where do you drink in SA?
Austin is the land of fruits and nuts!!! Lots of libs in Austin.
Too old for 6th Street. Just right for live music on Red River.
Don't get to San Antonio enough to even grab a drink.
Ja, er ist ein echtes Arschloch!
I can say it in German and not get scolded for it!
Someone should tell him that Ann Richard's funeral was LAST week.
They should have known the minute he walked in with that flamethrower that it was going to turn out badly.
When I went to school there, there were lots of things that would have the "same effect."
If you were a liberal loon, a whiff of the aroma of pot, someone willing to share a bottle of cheap wine, or the blood bank offering an extra $5 for plasma were all just as good.
On the other hand, some good barbecue coupled with a six pack of Lone Star long necks was an easy way to send us conservatives into orbit.
It being 11 AM fires up the Democrats in Austin, so long as they are at the Beer Garten .
Well, it'll be a cold day in Hell before they retake Texas, and we can take comfort if they won't take any other state before that.
Only he's "beer hall putz!"
He was preaching to the liberal choir, if he was downtown. I still see sKerry/Edwards bumper stickers on the Volvo station wagons here in Austin.
I actually made a sign on yellow poster board that says: Kerry Lost in 04. I hold that sign up as I pass them in my pickup. Several have told me I am a #1 driver!!
>...Republicans have taken the country in the wrong direction.<
Mr. Dean appears to be America's Neville Chamberlain. Does he mention which direction the Demonrats would take us? He dares not, for elections have been lost for less!
Sure got the salute a few times. Of course, I still have the W/04 oval on the back window. I guess that infuriates them even more.
