The Democratic nominee for lieutenant governor said Wednesday his Republican rival is out of sync with Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's many laudable achievements perhaps not what Democratic gubernatorial nominee Phil Angelides ached to hear. Insurance Commissioner John Garamendi's news release noted state Sen. Tom McClintock, R-Thousand Oaks, voted against the landmark greenhouse-gas emissions reduction bill Schwarzenegger signed into law Wednesday.
McClintock also opposed the minimum-wage increase Schwarzenegger signed Sept. 12, the Million Solar Roofs legislation Schwarzenegger signed Aug. 21, and the Los Angeles Unified School District's handover to Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa signed Sept. 18, Garamendi noted.
And McClintock also has opposed increased funding for children's health care outreach and enrollment; prescription drug discounts for seniors and low-income residents; Proposition 71 of 2004, the stem cell research initiative; abortion choice; and all but one of November's infrastructure bond measures, while Schwarzenegger has supported all of these.
Yet in providing a laundry list of what McClintock opposes, Garamendi essentially sent reporters a laundry list of what he sees as Schwarzenegger's assets.
"We're making the point forcefully and clearly that Tom McClintock is woefully out of step with where a majority of Californians and where a lot of mainstream Republicans are, including the top of his own ticket," Garamendi campaign consultant Jason Kinney said later Wednesday, adding Garamendi supported these "popular and progressive initiatives that will move California forward, and Tom McClintock continues to party like its 1899."
But regardless of Schwarzenegger's record on these issues, Garamendi "is absolutely, unequivocally in support of Phil Angelides and the entire Democratic ticket," Kinney said.
Angelides campaign spokesman Nick Papas was not concerned by Garamendi's release.
"Democrats across this state are united behind Phil Angelides," he said. "They know Arnold Schwarzenegger is a Bush Republican. They are tired of a governor who stands on the side of corporations and special interests, and they want a governor who will stand up for hard-working, middle-class families."

Yesterday, the Dem Lite Gub went wholehog and All In over Global Warming.
Makes one wonder why it's even worth bothering to have a Ca GOP in California. He likely may have more coattails for Dems ,, wouldn't that be a twist?
Sounds like McClintock is sticking with the Republican platform, to me.
Thank you, Tom!
Sounds like Garamendi is joining forces with certain Freepers.
BTTT
CaGOP take note. Your gubernatorial candidate's assets are being touted by Democrats.
My advice is that the current CaGOP leadership get their assets out of town and take Humpty Dumpty with them.
So what's new? Everything else has been a "twist" already!!! Even the truth has been twisted till one can hardly recognize it anymore!!!
