Maryland is not the highest in the country so I don't know why ours is so high.
It must county and or local tax.

I am not sure about that amount. In the 1980's, most Iowa gas stations had a blurb about how much of the price per gallon was taxes. I remember it posted that is was 65.1 cents per gallon.

Interresting. Eight of the ten highest gas tax states are run by Democrats and went for Kerry. :) I find that so pleasently ironic. Thanks for posting that! :)
