Al-Queada was never supported by the Iraqis. Al-Zarquai was in the kurdish controlled north.
Most of the violence is due to the various Militias between the Sunni, Shia and Kurds. And every group thinks they can beat the hell of the other two groups, the only thing stopping it is the US Forces.
