I've been thinking about the Clinton performance and the fact that Newt Gingrich thinks that it was staged. I was wondering what would be the purpose of staging something like that. Then I heard some on the left complaining that Clinton was distracting from the leaked NSA report that should have monopolized the news coverage. I had to wonder if this was the purpose, to distract from the NSA report, because Clinton realized that the report was damning to the Democrat cut and run strategy.

I like Newt, for the most part. But I think his analysis of Clinton's Fox performance is way off. Clinton has turned the focus of the political debate to an argument about the "wall of separation," and Chinagate, and oral sex while discussing the deployment of troops, and why Sandy Berger was willing to risk personal destruction and prison to try to steal documents related to Clinton's anti-terrorism decisions leading up to the 9/11 Commission hearings.

This is a debate that runs completely to the favor of the Republicans.
