Former [UVA Football] Teammate: George Allen Stuffed Deer Head into Black Fmaily's Mailbox

US Senator George Allen is responding to more allegations of racist behavior.

The latest comes from a former college teammate.

Former teammate Doctor Ken Shelton says, "Allen said he came to Virginia because he wanted to play football in a place where 'blacks knew their place.'"

"He used the N-word on a regular basis back then," said Shelton, who was in Salon.com.

During a hunting outing with Allen and another teammate, Shelton says Allen drove the three to a black neighborhood and "he proceeded to take the doe's head and stuff it into a mailbox."

Bishop Gerald Glenn says he used to see Allen as a Confederate flag waving redneck and has talked to the senator about his perception problem in the African American community.

While the two still disagree on key issues, Glenn says assassinating Allen's character does nothing for the voters of Virginia.

Allen told reporters today that he and Doctor Shelton weren't close and haven't spoken to each other in more than 30 years. Other teammates have released statements saying they've never heard Allen use racial slurs.

Allen's approval rating is down in the latest poll released today by SurveyUSA. The poll was taken last week, so the numbers do not reflect possible reaction to the Salon.com article.

Nixon and his brother owned a wonderful drive-in restaurant (Nixon's) in Whitter where all of kids hung out.

Nixon's, which was in business from 1952 to 1957, was the place to go for "beefburgers," as they were called, patty melts, and malts. Cars used to line up along Whittier Blvd. waiting to get in. It later bacame Whirly's and stayed in business until 1962.

So was I.

so, you saw the videotape? Did you clearly here him say Maccaca? Or did you possibly here him say something similar? Your assumption that Mr. Allen uttered a slang that is so rare that it has never been heard of until this "incident" is a bit overreative, is it not?

Then it wasn't moved. Fur Shur it looked like it had been "reset" on a new foundation. Maybe you can find out if they did that when they built the library, or just pointed it up.

BTW, within weeks of seeing that house we visited Carl Sanburg's home in Illinois. It was remarkably similar ~ maybe the same kit.

Yup ~ he didn't say monkey. Doncha' know, all Republicans are so stupid they don't know latin words, nor biological terms, and certainly no words in obscure dialects from Central Africa or South East Asia.

Let me put it this way ~ the Dems can't have it both ways. We are all geniuses or we are as stupid as they say we are.

I think Karl Rove has proved that several times eh?!

Indeed, it was. Whe the library was built, the house was jacked up and the foundation seismically reinforced. However, the floor, which was laid by Richard Nixon's father Frank, has held up well, despite having been walked on by about three million visitors.

When the library acquired the house, it had a 1960's decor, with a shag carpet and striped wallpaper in the kitchen, which had been enlarged since the Nixons' day by removing a wall. The library restored the missing wall in the kitchen, stripped away the wallpaper and carpeting, moved in the Nixon's original furniture, which had been in storage, and brought in a few "period" items, such as a wood stove and an ice box.

No one knows who made the kit used to build the house, but it was definitely not Sears & Roebuck or Montgomery Ward. The Nixons lived at the house until 1922, when they moved to Whittier.

Problem with being too polished is that it makes you seem inhuman.

That's exactly right. I did not intend that statement as a positive for Romney. One of the things I like most about GW is the fact he seem genuine, if not overly eloquent.

Romney has had the opportunity for a similar moment with a casualty from the Big Dig. His response was corporate - something along the lines of needing better policy, etc. I cannot see him with either tears or fire in his eyes.

I should add that even Romney's flip-flop on abortion (which I obviously agree with) seems only to add to his cool, computational nature, as though he's "positioning". I hope it is true and from the heart, but to this point have doubts.

My husband and I both graduated from Whittier High, although I spent 3 years at Santa Fe.

All of our children were born at Presbyterian, but we have lived in Memphis, Tenn. since 74.

Do you still live there?

Well, while i may accept that romney is 'conservative' now, my worry is will he stay that way? He hasn't proved that he's had a clear consistent ideolgy over time. WHat happens if say, a president romney has a diasterous midterm elections, then does he veer left on us to be reelected or something like that? Reagan was always reagan, even when sh#t hit the fan. One of the reasons i like allen is because he has always preached jeffersonian conservatism, since his first election as delegate. He didn't change during his time in office and is comitted to conservatism. Mccain prostitutes himself to whatever the media wants, rudy has never been a conservative or makes any bones to pretend to be one. Romney says he's one, but will he stay that way?

I'm still in the Allen camp, but right now he's in a proving ground for political stamina. If he rises beyond this (and stops apologizing for goodness sakes!) we'll know he's for real. If he can't, then I'm afraid '08 will be another "hold your nose" election like '96.

I don't care that he has M.D. after his name, this is just too much coincidence when you factor in his political leanings and anti-tobacco activism.

I'm a mathematician, and when I'm feeiling particularly arrogant, I say that M.D. stands for "Mediocre Doctorate".

I just think it's more than a coincidence that the only incident of deerheads in mailboxes that we can find happened earlier this year in this guy's backyard (relatively speaking).

over here in the yellow shirt, macaca, or whatever his name is,

Why is this so hard?

It was made up by his staff.

Honestly, there are times when I think I am the smartest person in the whole world.

I grew up in West Whittier before moving to College Hills (above Whittier College), attended Dexter Junior High, and graduated from Whittier High. I currently live in La Habra, which is next door, just over the Orange County line.

Sometimes you just can't respond to everything.

How do you argue with someone who says the sky is purple?

How do you defend yourself against a lie every day?

Allen quite simply can't swat all these flies at once, especially when the WaPo (and NYT) refuses to discuss anything else.

The man's name is S.R. Sidarth. If you do a search, you will see that he writes for the UVa newspaper.

He's a journalist, you see.
