Like Jeff Cooper, my Dad, who attained the exalted rank of PFC in the Marines during WWII and fought in Guadalcanal and Bougainville, passed a few days ago at age 85.

Someone posted a list of Cooperisms on FR a while back. Wish I'd saved it.

Here's one:

"If you don't understand weapons you don't understand fighting. If you don't understand fighting you don't understand war. If you don't understand war you don't understand history. If you don't understand history, you might as well live with your head in a sack."

Here's more (Google: "Jeff Cooper Quotes")

One cannot legislate the maniacs off the street... these maniacs can only be shut down by an armed citizenry. Indeed bad things can happen in nations where the citizenry is armed, but not as bad as those which seem to be threatening our disarmed citizenry in this country at this time.
Jeff Cooper

Owning a handgun doesn't make you armed any more than owning a guitar makes you a musician.
Jeff Cooper

Remember the first rule of gunfighting... "have a gun."
Jeff Cooper

The police cannot protect the citizen at this stage of our development, and they cannot even protect themselves in many cases. It is up to the private citizen to protect himself and his family, and this is not only acceptable, but mandatory.
Jeff Cooper

The will to survive is not as important as the will to prevail... the answer to criminal aggression is retaliation.
Jeff Cooper

We continue to be exasperated by the view, apparently gaining momentum in certain circles, that armed robbery is okay as long as nobody gets hurt! The proper solution to armed robbery is a dead robber, on the scene.
Jeff Cooper

“Safety is something that happens between your ears, not something you hold in your hands.”

“The will to survive is not as important as the will to prevail... the answer to criminal aggression is retaliation.”

“Owning a handgun doesn't make you armed any more than owning a guitar makes you a musician.”

For those unfortunate souls not familiar with Cooper's works, imagine Teddy Roosevelt, John Wayne, Stephen Ambrose, and Ronald Reagan all mixed into one great man who dedicated his life work to improving shooting technique.

Before Lt. Col. Jeff Cooper, people believed the proper way to shoot was to hold a blued .38 special revolver with one hand and fire from the hip. Errr, Cooper showed us the right way. If you've taken a pistol class in the last generation, everything you learned descended directly from Jeff Cooper.

A giant has passed from our world to the next. Heaven is now secure.

Do a search (internet and/or Freep) for these Cooperism's. I bet you'll find them.

By the way, I wrote the Merriam-Webster dictionary online and told them a bit of the Colonel's life, and of his death. I asked them why so many new words have been added to the dictionary over the years, and Colonel Coopers words, like "hoplophobia", are not among them. It's PC to use words coined on the "skreet" by inner-city gang-bangers, but heaven forbid we enshrine the intelligent, practical, and life-saving words of a true hero, philosopher, teacher, and great American patriot.

Of course, most publishers of dictionaries are probably like most school book publishers, and others like them, so I don't expect a response or any action to be taken. These left-wing un-American maggots can't begin to understand real men like Colonel Cooper, but I still wanted to write and give it a try.
