September 25, 2006 -- Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice yesterday accused Bill Clinton of making "flatly false" claims that the Bush administration didn't lift a finger to stop terrorism before the 9/11 attacks. Rice hammered Clinton, who leveled his charges in a contentious weekend interview with Chris Wallace of Fox News Channel, for his claims that the Bush administration "did not try" to kill Osama bin Laden in the eight months they controlled the White House before the Sept. 11 attacks.
"The notion somehow for eight months the Bush administration sat there and didn't do that is just flatly false - and I think the 9/11 commission understood that," Rice said during a wide-ranging meeting with Post editors and reporters.
"What we did in the eight months was at least as aggressive as what the Clinton

Especially considering the request to cut off the transition funds for the incoming president because of the recount, which they need for investigations and other things re: their cabinet and staff; the chads/Gore/courts; getting furniture, china, silverware and the W's missing from all the keyboards in the White House; cleaning all the graffiti off the walls still as Bush was at the inauguration, as well as all the overturned staffers desks with stuff tossed about (true); not to mention short three very important cabinet members...

You nailed it there. That is one thing few talk about . . . on top of all the other stuff the GORE WHINING HE HAD WON THE ELECTION. How much time and energy did that take? Oh, man. I so-o wanted to see that much more played up and confronted in the Pathway to 9/11.

My favorite quote in the interview....
"""It's a longer-term strategy, and it may even have some short-term down side, but if you don't look at the longer term, you're just leaving the problem to somebody else," she said."""
I would be very interested in seeing Ms. Rice move up the chain if she would answer the call. This is the type of thinking we need in Washington to address a whole host of issues to include Social Security, Immigration, energy policy, and the war on terror.

What did we do though? What about some specifics? It would do a world of good in a debate to have actual specifics...

The secretary of state also sharply disputed Clinton's claim that he "left a comprehensive anti-terror strategy" for the incoming Bush team during the presidential transition in 2001.
"We were not left a comprehensive strategy to fight al Qaeda," Rice responded during the hourlong session.Hear, hear! To me that "We" should be America, not just the administration.
Give the devil his due...
Clinton proposes anti-terrorism plan January 22, 1999
In an interview with The New York Times published Friday, Clinton said it is "highly likely" that a terrorist group would launch or threaten a germ or chemical attack on U.S. soil within the next few years.
Nice guess, try again.
Clinton said the threat that "keeps me awake at night" is the possibility of a biological attack.
"A chemical attack would be horrible, but it would be finite," he said. But a biological attack could spread, "kind of like the gift that keeps on giving," the president said.

Biological Bill, the gift that keeps on giving.

Then she posed the argument: We were in a good place on Sept. 11, 2001? I don't think so. EXCELLENT! Succinct, in the extreme. She had some great one-liners.
Clinton's ill-conceived, fallacious in many cases, angry spew will provide ammunition for thoughtful people for a very long time. His loud outburst and physical aggression were an embarrassment. It's a shame he didn't use that "outrage" on the terrorists in Somalia or after the "Cole" incident!

Cheese and crackers!
I'm going to run the Time Line again.
November to late December, the Gore challenge to the election of G. W. Bush.
Christmas and New years...nothing happens in DC for the holidays and the Bush transition team is working overtime.
January 20, 2001; Bush inauguration.
Bush nominates his Cabinet with some success in the following months but in June 'Jumpin Jim' Jeffords throws control of the Senate to the Dems. The new administation is in a quagmire.
Bush is forced to inherit the Clinton beauacratic appointments. And he had to rely on them.
August,2001. The Foggy Bottom Break. Nobody does nothin'.
9/11 2001,
Eight months.

As opposed to the eight looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong years Slick had to do something, other than lie and defile the rug in the Oval office and the sink just off it.
Your point being?
To: GOP Poet
I heard someone in the Bush administration, today, say that they had gotten ABSOLUTELY NO WARNING FROM THE CLINTON ADMINISTRATION regarding Bin Laden and there was no such thing as a "counter-terrorism plan" from the Clintoristas.
I wish I could remember who it was, that would be an important bit of info. I once said, they might have left a Post-It Note on the desk in the Oval Office, for all we know! I wouldn't call that much of a warning. Even Clark has changed his story regarding how forthcoming he was with information regarding terrorists once the Bush people were in place.

Common Sense. In a time when I wonder if there is anyone in Washington with a brain, I'd just settle for someone with plain commonsense. (A quote from my conversation with a McCain aide, during a phone call regarding the "torturing terrorists" thing.)
