ROANOKE RAPIDS - State Alcohol Law Enforcement agents seized moonshine and cited 71 people on 76 different charges in the parking lot for Saturday's Carolina Crossroads concert.
Agent Brent Massey said officers were actually prepared to handle more violations at the Gretchen Wilson/Hank Williams Jr. show at Carolina Crossroads. They were surprisingly calm crowds from all the horror stories we had heard from other venues that had this show. They were saying how many fights were coming. We were pleasantly surprised that we didn't have that big of a problem. I think we got the better end of it.
Massey said most of the charges were for alcohol-related violations. They also included littering, drunk and disruptive behavior, misdemeanor marijuana and drug paraphernalia violations. There were three fake ID charges.
The only drunk and disruptive behavior charge ALE made was on a person who didn't think his ID should be checked, Massey said.
There were two separate moonshine cases. One man was in possession of a Mason jar of illegal liquor and cited for possession of non-tax paid liquor.
Jonathan Christopher Mills, 25, of Goodview, Va., was charged with possession for sale of alcohol without permits and possession of non-tax paid spirituous liquor.
The moonshine was labeled with Confederate flag stickers and came in different flavors, Massey said. Four gallon jars and four quart jars were seized.
Sgt. R.T. Futrell of the N.C. Highway Patrol said he was pleased with the event. It went well. Some people were asked to leave the concert. In all we had a good crowd. It was a good opportunity for people to enjoy some music in this area.
With crowd estimates in the low to mid 30,000 range, Futrell said traffic problems were minimal. We had them out in an hour and a half. It's working right along.
Roanoke Rapids Police Chief Greg Lawson said officers encountered few problems with the exception of a few drunk and disorderly charges. It went great ... With the crowd we had we didn't have a lot of problems.
What are them Duke boys up to now?
Hard to pick a fight when your in a semi-comatose state from homemade liquor.
Wouldn't they be more useful and productive if retrained to do body-cavity searches of little old white ladys at airports?
Damn revenuers ....
I feel better now that they got that moonshine off the streets. I wonder why they couldn't call in the ATF rather than the state boys?
I wonder where they hid the Meth Lab?
do you happen to know what the four flavors were?
If they called in the ATF the moonshiner's trailers would be on fire.
Not to mention, the big guns!

This was not crime prevention. This was revenue enhancement.
Sounds like that police force doesn't have enough to do. Maybe they should be downsized a bit.
Disgusting, isn't it?
Yup.
And getting more intrusive and outrageous every day.
No. Way.
