There is terrorism in Baghdad but a criminal gang problem has also been plaguing our nation's capital. In an officially declared "crime emergency," black criminals had been robbing, assaulting, and even raping tourists in the National Mall area, where the Washington Monument and the World War II and Lincoln Memorials stand. This is an area that had been considered safe and "tourist-friendly."
Three young black men were arrested for these crimes, but you could search in vain in the local media for any reference to their skin color. Instead, they were described as "D.C. youths" or just "five people."
Stories about the National Mall arrests in the Washington Post, Washington Times, Los Angeles Times, NBC-4, WTOP, WUSA-9, and the Associated Press all failed to provide readers information about the race of the perpetrators.
The same kind of coverage was on display when a jewelry store employee in Georgetown, a mostly white area of D.C., was shot by "assailants" on August 20. The Post said, "Police described two suspects as men in their thirties. One was in an orange turtleneck and a dark sweatshirt. The other was pulling a wheeled suitcase with a duffel bag on top."
There was no mention of their race. An NBC-4 story, however, noted that "The perpetrators are described as dark-complexioned black men, possibly in their mid-30s. One of them was wearing a dark-colored sweatshirt and an orange turtleneck."

When race is not provided in a crime report, that is the cue the criminal is black. If the perp is eventually caught, they will subsequently run a photograph taken a decade ago where the young thug/scholar is wearing a blue eighth-grade graduation gown and mortarboard. He will be described as "an aspiring rap artist trying to turn his life around" or similiar nonsense. The media is very predictable.

do what I do when I go to DC, carry a lightweight revolver...
I plan to on my next trip.
It is my contention that photos should be taken of criminals when they are arrested. These photos should be used as evidence against the criminals after their lawyers have cleaned them up and put them in a suit and tie at the trial.
I've thought about it. The main problem is that I'll be staying with a friend on a military base for part of the trip and have no way of getting on base with a pistol.
It's sad, really. Washington, DC is a beautiful city, especially downtown and the monument areas. It's sad that across the river is more reminiscent of Mogadishu than America. But what can you do about it?
There was also a problem with the criminals crossing the Potomac from DC into Northern VA, until the passage of concealed carry, 5-year mandatory firearm sentencing (Project Exile), and the elimination of parole in Virginia.
Up to the 70's, Anacostia was a lower-middle-class white area, and the "Anacosta Boys" were known to be tough as nails. I knew a lot of them from Boy Scouts, they were quite street smart.
"We're going to DC next month on vacation and planned to visit the monuments in the evening."
Just a suggestion: make sure there are a couple Park Police on site before you park the car.
But of course, but I would rather spend a year in jail ALIVE due to a gun charge and sued by the NAALCP lawyers than be beaten, stabbed, shot to death by a bunch of recidivist, criminal, demoncRAT-voting,animals.
Good call! I always get a laugh out of the obligatory mortarboard photo.
You are speaking of normal jails.
DC jail is not normal and you would probably be the only white guy there. Also probably the only person there who doesnt have a cousin or brother who is a guard.
You see in DC the guards are hired from Anacostia too.
Shudder...
It sounds like the sad reality is one must see the beautiful sights and monuments of Washington, D.C. only by daylight and/or with a reputable and knowledgeable tour operator. Perhaps it is like Central Park at night...it's a beautiful place to be...but nobody would suggest it. Hopefully we can reclaim the streets from the thugs via improvement to firearms laws for decent and law-abiding people.

Let's not forget the Chesapeake St. and Potomac St. areas down near Bolling AFB. Nor the fun and games of NW from North Capitol over to 14th or 15th St.
Speaking of Waldorf, I've never seen a place where they planned their high-crime areas in advance.
Most people know that when race is not identified it is de facto identification.
Wasn't there a Rollie Evans, the anti-gun news guy who 'drew a gun' on someone?......LOL..
Most sensible people now are very well aware of the media's filter which consistently blocks out two words: 1 refers to the race of the perpetrators of an enormous amount of crime in proportion to their representation in the overall population; 2 refers to the religion/ethnicity/ideology of the perpetrators of death, destruction and terrorism all over the world.
Normal people infailingly "see" the missing words and restore them as if they were in the article. We aren't being fooled.
