There is terrorism in Baghdad but a criminal gang problem has also been plaguing our nation's capital. In an officially declared "crime emergency," black criminals had been robbing, assaulting, and even raping tourists in the National Mall area, where the Washington Monument and the World War II and Lincoln Memorials stand. This is an area that had been considered safe and "tourist-friendly."
Three young black men were arrested for these crimes, but you could search in vain in the local media for any reference to their skin color. Instead, they were described as "D.C. youths" or just "five people."
Stories about the National Mall arrests in the Washington Post, Washington Times, Los Angeles Times, NBC-4, WTOP, WUSA-9, and the Associated Press all failed to provide readers information about the race of the perpetrators.
The same kind of coverage was on display when a jewelry store employee in Georgetown, a mostly white area of D.C., was shot by "assailants" on August 20. The Post said, "Police described two suspects as men in their thirties. One was in an orange turtleneck and a dark sweatshirt. The other was pulling a wheeled suitcase with a duffel bag on top."
There was no mention of their race. An NBC-4 story, however, noted that "The perpetrators are described as dark-complexioned black men, possibly in their mid-30s. One of them was wearing a dark-colored sweatshirt and an orange turtleneck."

The Mall is patrolled by the US Park Police, not DC police.
There have been repeated stories about the understaffing on the Mall, particularly since 9/11.
The previous chief of the Park Police was fired after talking with the WashPost about the extreme budgetary woes.
Regardless, as a longtime DC Metro resident, I'd think twice about strolling around the Mall after dark unless it was for a big event like the 4th or July or something similar.
Cover-up? They could take lessons from Pine Bluff, AR. The murder rate there, not so many years ago, was so bad that Pine Bluff just stopped reporting it.
This has been going on for over 20 years now. Our government refuse to put a face on crime and the ACLU is complicit along with the ABA. Black on white crime is outrageous and Americans are not being told the truth. Anytime a white person commits a crime against a black it makes National Headlines but very few people have ever heard of the race involved and the facts of the Wichita Massacre or the Jesse Dirkhising case. People do not know that segregation still exist only it is the minorities in a community that are allowed to do it. Our government is a farce along with the press when it comes to telling the truth about race and crime.Remember racial profiling is wrong unless it is a white group you are profiling.
There is no need to mention race when a crime is reported in DC.
Unless the crime is White Collar or driving drunk while going to a Congressional meeting at 3 am in the morning 95% of crimes committed in DC involve blacks.
Anacostia and N.E. is worse than most third world countries. Cross the river after dark and you take your life in your own hands. They come across to rob , rape and pillage then run back across the river to hide, get doped up and come across again the next night. There are other places in DC that are bad, but nothing compares to West of the river. To top it off many have moved to Prince Georges County Maryland and come in to raid the city, or run down to Waldorf and spread their crime there.
That's great. We're going to DC next month on vacation and planned to visit the monuments in the evening. The thugs can do what they want, but in the liberal paradise of Washington DC, I can do nothing to protect myself.

It's like an article about a scandal with a politician....if they don't mention whether they are a Democrat or Republican, you can BET they are a Democrat. 100% of the time.
Bull, do what I do when I go to DC, carry a lightweight revolver and be prepared to walk away after defending your life...just don't expect to go into any buildings with metal detectors.
Bad part is that I would make national news and spend thousands and thousands of dollars defending a good, legal shoot since I am white, if not lots of jailtime for meer possession of my "portable life insurance policy, caliber .38S&W"
They are just taking a que from their neighbors in Maryland. Baltimore, Columbia - covering up the existance of crime is just normal operating procedure, especially within the police department and government. Wouldnt want to have an adverse effect on tourism and property value. That whole area is unsafe.

I see the Washington Times, hardly a bastion of liberalism, didn't give the race either. What's their reason?
I suppose most people know the reality but it is an outrage anyway for the "news" media not to do their jobs. How resonsible is it of them NOT to give a description of criminals when public safety is at stake?? If you know someone of a certain background is on the loose, you can try to protect yourself better. Although of course that would then lead to profiling. Better that innocent people should end up dead than someone (or a certain group) should get offended.
