My wife was watching real time with Bill Maher the other day, (yes, I know, I forgive her) and one of the lefty guests made a statement to the effect of: "What is the purpose of terror? It's to elicit a grand overreaching response"

I always thought the purpose of terrorism was to cause terror in order to force a political viewpoint, or just outright murder.
This guy was basically saying that terrorists attack us so we will strongly attack them back....
pretty self defeating strategy really. You don't score a touchdown with the intent of having the other team score ten touchdowns, right?
