For The Poor

READ:
Deuteronomy 15:7-11Open your hand wide to your brother, to your poor and your needy, in your land. Deuteronomy 15:11
The man sits on the street corner day after day, begging for money. Hes poor and desperate for a little cash to spend on food.
Hes not alone. More than one-half of the worlds people live below the internationally defined poverty line of less than $2.00 a day. Poverty and hunger are such a big problem in our world that its easy for us to feel helpless or to become hard-hearted and do nothing.
But God doesnt close His eyes to the plight of the poor. When He gave His people guidelines for living, He included instructions on ways to care for the needy (Deut. 15:11). He told His people, You shall not harden your heart, nor shut your hand, from your poor brother, [but] open your hand wide to him and willingly lend him sufficient for his need (vv.7-8).
God also commanded His people not to glean the corners of their fields so that the less fortunate could gather food (Lev. 19:9-10). And Jesus showed His compassion for the poor by His words and actions.
As Christians, we cannot ignore the plight of the poor today. Individuals and churches can join with Christian organizations working to combat poverty as they spread the Word. God has a heart for the poor. Do we? Anne Cetas
The poor and needy everywhere
Are objects of Gods love and care,
But they will better know His care
As we seek ways that love to share. D. De Haan

It looks as though we're on a parallel track, Jack!
I also have a poem named "Pebbles."
Pebbles
God gives us broken gravel,
A world that hurts to touch.
We tend to show ingratitude,
This doesnt seem so much.
And as we go about our work,
And strive to see the point,
It seems we end up getting,
More gravel in each joint.
We bump about and break them,
And grind them into dust.
We really wouldnt touch them,
Except we find we must.
Theyre all around us everywhere,
Our burdens on this Earth,
We trudge and trek the rocky path,
That started with our birth.
At long last it is ended,
The final day arrives,
We end with pretty shining stones,
To decorate our lives.
For this is what its been about,
The changes that we make,
Are to the roughness we wear off,
Thats all for Heavens sake.
So smile and struggle onward,
Your life will take some grit.
God has some expectations,
What will become of it?
Bear up and hoist the burden,
The effort is worthwhile,
For when you go back home again,
You will be dressed in style.

Although only two candidates attended tonights forum it went extremely well. It just gave the two of us more time with the crowd that attended.
In attendence for candidates was Assemblyman Robin Schimminger and Assembly candidate Rus Thompson (me). Missing was my opponent Sam Hoyt, Robins opponent,I don't know who she is, Tom Reynolds (he is still in DC),George, maziarz (he had a conflict..), Jack Davis, Delmonte, Parenti, Slaughter..
So Robin and I had the stage all to ourselves which made the evening more fun. Although serious issues were brought up and questions were answered and we entertained the crowd. I like Robin and there was very little we disagreed on. He is a Democrat I could vote for, Thanks for attending Robin.
Such a shame that most wouldn't respond to the invite.
Also in the audience was Supervisor Peter McMahon, Councilman Dick Crawford, Gary Roesch and Councilwoman Mary Cooke.
Rus and Robin on stage with moderator Tom Stiles from NYCF.
We really enjoyed ourselves and so did the audience. After a little over an hour on stage we mingled and talked to everyone there.
Councilman Dick Crawford and Lion Tom Witkowski
My wife Julianne, Duanne Motley, Rus, Pastor Kevin Backus and Tom Stiles.
I would like to again Thank everyone for attending and Duanne and Tom from New Yorkers for Constitutional Freedoms for hosting the forum tonight.

Thanks for the ping, Rus. I hope the voters remember who showed up when it comes time to vote. They need to vote for someone--like yourself--who care enough to want to tell their positions. Sheesh!
