I often think GWB is more concerned about what the monied interests (who are seeking cheap labor) and Vencente Fox think than what his base wants. Don't forget, his sister-in-law (Jeb's wife) comes from a wealthy Mexican family.
Fortunately, the House may have Bush and the senate backed into a corner on building a wall.

Mexico's
murder rate is 13 per 100,000 people. The US murder rate is 4.2 per 100,000 people. Maybe the guy's a fan of Hollywood action movies and figures the number of murders stateside is correlated with the body count in those movies.

The statistics you mention (
2006 (lst Qtr) INS/FBI Statistical Report on Undocumented Immigration) are self-referenctial. The "sources" just refer back to each other, and there isn't anything I can find from INS (which doesn't exist any more) or the FBI that confirms them.
What is different about the "underclass" making up the bulk of immigrants? That's always been the case.
Mexican crime statistics are way overblown. I've seen numbers as high as 600+ for the number of Americans kidnapped in Mexico, when the closest anyone can come to a "real" number is around 5 or 10 a year (usually Americans involved in criminal activity in Mexico). Most of the alarmist figures on American deaths in Mexico lump natural deaths (and, the bulk of U.S. citizens in Mexico being retirees, there are a lot of natural deaths) with the very rare instances of violent death (including accidents) which are rare enough to make the front pages of all Mexican papers.
The reality is most Mexican criminal violence involves either criminals "taking care of business" among themselves or domestic violence. Stranger on stranger violence is extremely rare.
I'm not surprised that more "illegal" aliens are in prison than other populations. Uh... they're "illegal", right?

Mexicans are a problem on both sides of the border.

Just watch the news (local or national), read stats on who is imprisoned for various crimes and you will find that the LARGE majority are from Mexico. Not all are "Illegal" but most are either Illegal or relatively recent "Immigrants".
It doesn't take a real rocket scientist to put two and two together and realize that Mexico (and - Latin America in general) are the major source of our crime.Wouldn't it be great if we didn't have this crime?
I think we need a fence or something of that nature to keep criminals out of our country.
Wait a d@mn minute.
I thought we had legislation which would build such a fence. What ever happened to it - the legislation that is?!
