LONDON, Sept 24 (Reuters) - A leaked intelligence report of Osama bin Laden's death has met scepticism from Western and Muslim governments but may increase a clamour from his followers to show himself on video for the first time in nearly two years.
One theory surrounding the mysterious French leak is that it was designed precisely to flush the al Qaeda leader into the open, prompting him to release a new tape that might give a clue to his whereabouts and state of health.

Thant's going to be difficult....sending a message from his luncheon with Polonius.
Binladenhadbeendead4awhile.
Somehow I don't think he'll take the bait.
I look forward to loads of pre-recorded tapes of bin Laden to be broadcast long after his death....whenever that is.
How long do you think this Elvis cycle will last?
Reuters warns bin Laden that this could be trap. Thanks, guys.
One problem with this theory is that the French seem to have no interest in finding bin Laden. They have not been the victim of an al-Qaida attack. Their troops are not fighting al-Qaida in the battlefied.
Why would they want to help America and President Bush?
The only reason I can think of why the French leaked it is because they think it's true.
I am willing to declare Bin Laden dead. It isn't like he can be out and about without worrying that someone is either going to kill him or turn him in for reward money. He is confined to caves and the huts of tribal muslims. That has to be fun. He has very little power now and that has to hurt, he has seen many of his close friends die or be captured, his life if he is alive is misrable. If he is not dead I hope that instead of being captured he is killed. His capture would be a call to arms for the jihadis. His death while they would be angry wouldn't prompt the same kind of jihadi response.
Somehow I don't think he'll take the bait.
Especially not if his bones have been rat food in a cave for a couple of years.
Well...at least up until now.
Ha ha, exactly my thoughts. You wonder though if his followers aren't in a double bind. On one hand, if bin laden is dead, it would behoove them to be silent, because one of the insults hurled by the anti bush crowd is how after all these years they still haven't captured him (maybe that's why they have been silent all these years since he most likely died years ago). On the other hand, announcing his death would make him a martyr, and many groups now like the U.K. airline bombing plotters are home grown, 'lone wolf' groups not directly linked to osama's organization but spiritually inspired by him.
I think the al-qaeda types like to keep people guessing for awhile.
All the better for when they come out and say "Ha ha, I'm still alive. In fact, you can't kill me because I am Superman. All muslims should join me because I am Superman/Muhammed's favorite son."
That's just what I was thinking reading the headline.
If Bin Laden is alive, then he has to somehow indicate it, or else he becomes irrelevant.
I was thinking the same. That's why I posted it.
i agree with you. he has been dead for couple of years
Ah, but you do err, my friend. The correct appelation is "Al-Reuters".
He's not dead.
He'sjust pining for the fjords!

That was my first thought, as well.
