Mod: Please revise heading with update at this post.
I spoke with Tom today. Joan has been battling hard and was able to enjoy Thanksgiving with her family somewhat. She is unable to eat, and weighs less than 45 pounds. The doctors say she is fighting a losing battle with the cancer that is now all through her body, and aren't giving her much time left. Tom is being very strong for her. She felt she looked so sick she wouldn't allow the grandchildren at her bedside at Christmas.
Prayers for comfort and courage are requested.

Prayers on the way for Joan and family.
To: Hi Heels
How many times, O Lord, have we come to You, echoing Your Words as recorded in Job 12:10 ... that in Your hand is the life of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind.
We know not why it is that Joan's body is overrun with disease, but we do know her concern is that her grandchildren remember a vibrant woman. Surely, it is You who sustains this family in their darkest hours. Whisper words of comfort that can only be spoken by the Holy Spirit ... bring words of encouragement that can only come from the Creator ... bring visions of the Heavenlies that can only come from Your promises of eternal life through the Risen Savior.
Be the food and drink that Joan needs ... satisfy her soul in the hours and days ahead ... prepare her loved ones for the sorrow of her passing while you sustain them with the certainty of joyous reunion, for it is Your hand that holds her life ... it is Your hand that holds the breath of all mankind.
Blessed be Your Name, now and forevermore, Amen ...

"I cannot begin to tell you, FRiends, how helpful it is to know that there are special people out there who are remembering me (and my family) in their prayers. It means the world to us and helps us always to remember to focus our prayers on much larger issues than simply our own current issues."
so sorry to read this update. I'm keeping ZM & her family in prayer at this difficult time.
