If by "old news," you mean his being poisoned two years ago and dying a few days ago, his dying seems to make it news.

If by "old news," you mean that Ellesu posted it a few days ago (as I discovered after posting while trying to find more info), I'd say it's not old since it hasn't made lgf, Malkin, or any of the other biggie sites. I've seen many stories posted multiple times on the same day. Most people haven't seen every story on FR as you appear to have.

And, it can't be that old if I live in the state, and hadn't heard of it till twenty minutes ago, in spite of being a news junkie.

OK, I confess, I think I saw it on dailykos or one of the leftist sites. Can't remember.
