As the candidate fights to clarify his message, donations fall short. Unions may decide to spend their campaign money elsewhere.

With just over six weeks left in the race for governor, the troubles facing Democrat Phil Angelides have intensified, and his political allies are expressing rising concern over his campaign's failure to gain momentum.

Hindering his drive to oust Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger are Angelides' slow pace in raising money, his tepid support from organized labor and his difficulty defining himself clearly for voters, Democratic strategists say.

There is NO problem with Angelides "defining himself" -- -- people just don't like what he stands for.

I wonder if the Democrat Times of Los Angeles (Larry Elder's term) will be doing the free paper drop right before the election with hit pieces on Ahnold, and/or puff pieces on Devilides (as they did with Arnold and Gumby right before the recall election three years ago). I'd not put it past them.

"We see a trend here. Angelides fails to understand that business will not lose money just because the government imposes restrictions or forces higher taxes on it. CEOs and stockholders will not let that money come out of their own pockets. Instead, they will raise product prices and offer fewer jobs, hurting those same middle-class workers who Angelides wants to help.

Schwarzenegger provides a much more realistic approach. He is not against workers or education. He wants to see us succeed, he wants to see the economy flourish, and he wants to see healthy Californians. I don't know why RATS would want to get rid of Arnold, He's been a good democrat... I guess it's because he isn't spending enough and driving CA's deficit into the 14 digit realm fast enough.

Arnold is something of a paradox in that he understands the value of freedom in relation to economics and providing a sound foundation for commerce but that understanding fails to include the value of freedom to the individual and the fostering of domestic tranquility by a government which is restrained from interfering in the lives of citizens.

Schwarzenegger clearly believes that social welfare is derived from the state rather than from the hearts of good people.

True. He and Arnold are BOTH liberals. He has struggled because he is not running against a Reaganite conservative. This leaves Democrats with no reason to go out to vote for a candidate who is set to lose by a landslide in November.
