Probably for the same reasons DDT was banned. Lousy science, driven by emotion, fear, litigation and lawyers...Tens or hundreds of millions of people died from malaria and other insect borne diseases, but DDT was banned because of Rachel Carson and her Silent Spring crap.
I recently read that some countries, hard hit by malaria, are starting to use DDT again.
