The great chasm

President Bush took his case for freedom, democracy, tolerance and "respect" for Islam to the United Nations. His speech was eloquent at times and uniquely American in its plea for understanding and help in freeing people from oppression in the Middle East. The only problem with the speech was that most of the oppressors and who knows how many of the "oppressed" see us, not themselves, in bondage to the pursuit of wealth and pleasure. They see even those who claim to be professed believers in God falling short in the way they live and witness our "decadence" on constant display in our media.

2 areas where Bush needs some help on his incessant erroneous pablum.

1)Islam is a noble respected religion of peace

2)We are a nation of immigrants. We all want to build a better America and there are jobs we wont do. This is not shamnesty!

tell me you forgot the < /sarcasm> tags.

Islam worships Mohamed. Muslims try to be as much like Mohamed as possible.

Mohamed was indisputably a murderous warrior who spread his "religion" (a form of tyrannical governance actually) by the sword.

All the teerorists today are demanind we conver to Islam.

There is no peace in Islam only restraint in the face of superior physical power.

I think it was six grade and I asked my History teacher, "If our system of government is so good then why doesn't everyone adopt it?" As an 11 year old I was naive!

With a degree in History, Political Science and a Masters in Finance and Accounting I now understand the economic, social and political dynamics!

Our Judeo/Christian value system and the understanding that man is perfectable , and NOT Perfect! is why we understand and practice the rule of law.

There are two competing forces that mitigate against us.

Tribalism and Time!

Less than half the Earths population lives in the 21st century. Their vision does not exceed the horizon and everything revolves around family and the tribal rules. When the book "The Ugly American" was published many of the socialist and liberalist establishment used its thesis to denigrate the good that we have done. This foolishness continues to be spewed today by the Reid's, Pelosi's and Kennedy's who "know for a fact" that given dictatorial powers they could set things straight!!!

Fooey! I'm going to watch North Mesquite High School take on Irving for a typical Texas Friday Night football extravaganza, Hut 1! Hut 2!

What a GREAT post ! As an American & a FReeper you comprehend the situation, but you refuse to give the terrorists, who are still living in the 12th century, the satisfaction of being able to turn out our "Friday Night Lights" !

North Mesquite Won 22 - 14! YaY!

Encapsulated in our sporting events is the values and substance of our system yes our civilization. We may hate it when the refs throw a flag against our team and we are penalized but we know that rules are there for a reason. We regulate our behaviors and in so doing maximize our freedoms. Sounds counterintuitive but it ain't!

At the end of the games the teams meet at midfield to shake hands and offer thanks for having palyed the game to the best of our abilities. There's no decimation of the vanquished. No beheadings, tongues cut out, eyes gouged and woman raped and sold into slavery. (sounds like Darfur, Nigeria and all those other Islamic havens where Allah is Akbared!)

That's why I get an extra kick when we stand and sing "The Star Spangled Banner".

Persoaal trivia note. I was TDY to Rapid city SDAK to obtain my altitude chamber ride so I could be a flying officer. There was three days of class and one day of altitude chamber and parachute training. First day of class I sat down next to another Captain. I looked at his nametag. His Name tag said "Key"! I introduced myself and then asked, "Any Relation?" He looked, smiled and said "Yes". Great, Great, Great Grand Uncle. Not to many people ask!" Meanwhile, over at Shea Stadium they welcomed the newest Shark to the West Side by singing "Jose can you see?". He answered "No this darn column is in the way!
