McCain praises terrorism detainee deal (MSM pretends McLame won)

WASHINGTON - The rift among Republicans over the treatment of terrorism detainees appears to have closed, with maverick GOP Sen. John McCain telling NBC News on Friday that a deal reached with President Bush will lead to fair trials and interrogations but not torture.

“We got what we wanted, and that is the preservation of the Geneva Conventions,” McCain, an Arizona Republican, said on NBC’s “Today” show. “There will be no more torture. There will be no more mistreatment of prisoners that would violate standards of conduct we would expect of people who work for the United States of America.”

McCain is an American hero who clearly was driven mad by his torture in Vietnam. How tragic.

McCain of course will still sound stupid. He got his press release. Bush got his deal.

The mind is a terrible thing to waste, fortunately McCain never had one to waste anyway.

This guy wants to be President and knifes conservatives in the back every chance he gets. I guess he prefers to remain Senator To The Media.

McCain, in his previous life was the one that was in England telling the military that they must wear red, walk in a straight line and play music.

In the 1970's even Bill Crosby had jokes about this. A generation has passed and we seem to have learned nothing.

What I don't understand is why is McCain getting anything? I have seen the initial votes of the caucuses and he is either last or next to last and will never get nominated to run for president.

I am just wondering, has the enemy stopped cutting off heads?

There will be no MORE torture? Is McLame calling the Abu Graib underwear-on-the-head business torture?

The agreement was hailed by human rights groups and seen by many as the president caving in when his usual Republican support crumbled.

This shows that ACLU is not part of those human rights groups, as it was on record against the agreement. So, who are those 'human rights group', or those who seen the president caving in?

Outrageous. Is McCain implying that torture and mistreatment was official US policy before?

All that happened was President Bush got all of what he wanted which was all he asked for but went ahead and gave McLame a life raft anyway.

I don't know why he thinks terrorists deserve to be treated as POWs. And I don't know any one else who thinks they do.

If he does the Democrat thing and can convince Americans it was happening he can now try to convince them that he saved the day. He's trying to save face by using the Democrat play book.

This is pathetic showmanship. THe interrogators will do what they need to do. The politicians are just doing a meaningless dance.

The USSC made them do this political dance but McCain was way offbeat.

He's not implying anything: he's stating it. How do you think we got KSM and Abu Zubaydah to talk?
