U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan on Thursday was trying to settle a flap over a potentially damaging claim made earlier in the day by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
Ahmadinejad said Annan had told him Iran could ignore a Security Council resolution requiring the country to cease enriching uranium by Aug. 31 or face economic sanctions. The Security Council sought the resolution in the face of rising fears over Iran's possible moves toward building nuclear weapons: Uranium enrichment is one of the key factors in that process.
But in its most recent report, the United Nations nuclear watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency, found that Iran had continued enriching uranium through the deadline, bypassing Security Council Resolution 1696.
"We didn't understand and couldn't understand why a resolution was passed in the midst of an examination of a package," Ahmadinejad said. "We think [the Security Council] was probably under pressure by some powers who constantly want to place pressure on countries. The secretary-general told me to disregard what has happened for the time being, resort to diplomacy."

I don't think he lied at all. In fact, Mahmoud(moo-mound) Ahmadinejad has been fairly truthful all along.
He said Israel should be destroyed, and re-confirmed this many times over.
He threatens the USA with unpresidented catastophy, many times over.
He says the "Great Pumpkin" oops, I mean the hidden 12 year old Imam who "dissapeared" in 935 will crawl back out of the well he has been hiding in, and rule the world, and that He, Moo-mound, must start a world war, or more specifically, a global religious war, to trigger this return.
He has stated this often, and again in the UN yesterday.
So who do you believe, Coughing Anus, or Moo-mound when he claims Coughing Anus told him to ignore the UN deadline?
Don't look for the MSM to even give it a mention.
At first glance it would be hard to understand why Ahminawhackjob would put this out there for public consumption.
Kofi is clearly not taking a hard line stance against Iran. If it is true, then outing him doesn't help him with Kofi. If it is not true, it doesn't help with getting Kofi to do Ahminawhackjob's bidding.
But when taken in the light of Ahminawhackjob's stated goal, bringing about the end times by sowing disorder and death across the globe so as to bring forth the 12/hidden Imam, which is supposed to lead to total peace (IE world islamization.), then it makes sense.
If Kofi said this, then this screws Kofi and makes it more likely that the UN would escalate things. It also makes it more likely that we would ignore the UN when it tries to force us to take a softer stance.
