In reversal, US House panel backs Bush on detainees

WASHINGTON, Sept 20 (Reuters) - In an abrupt reversal, a U.S. House of Representatives committee narrowly voted on Wednesday to endorse President George W. Bush's plan for tough interrogations and trials of foreign terrorism suspects after Republicans rounded up enough members.

About an hour earlier, the House Judiciary Committee rejected Bush's plan, with three Republicans joining committee Democrats. Embarrassed Republicans then summoned absent members, called for another vote, and approved it 20-19.

Bush's bill, which critics said would result in inhumane interrogations and unfair trials, has met even stiffer resistance in the Senate, and the White House is trying to work out a compromise.

Maybe they heard that McCain and his cohorts reached an agreement with POTUS.

So, lessee, in a week, the "impotent" "lame duck" Bush forced McClame and his cronies to cave and got the rebel House members to see it his way.

I don't know what happened in the back room, but I hope some Republican's butts are smoking.

Kicking and screaming to Victory in November. Must that be our rallying cry??

Not only did the three Senators look less than thrilled, especially Warner, but Duncan Hunter was ramrod straight, with eyes darting sideways, as though he expected to be attacked physically at any moment.

I hope someone eventually leaks exactly what went down to reach this accord.

The President does in fact get information from our troops on the ground. From May 3, 2004, National Review:

--snips:

The Taguba report quotes an earlier Army investigation into the problems at Abu Ghraib, which was not about the abuse of prisoners. The earlier investigation, by Major General Geoffrey Miller, briefly assessed the effectiveness of the military intelligence unit, Coalition Joint Task Force 7, in obtaining useful information from the detainees. Miller's report found that, "...CJTF-7 did not have authorities and procedures in place to affect (sic) a unified strategy to detain, interrogate, and report information from detainees/internees in Iraq." The fact that there was not such a strategy from the beginning proves only one thing: The commanders responsible for creating CJTF-7 didn't do their job. Why bother to interrogate prisoners at all if we don't have a mechanism in place to gather, evaluate, integrate, and make best use of what they tell us? Time after time after time, our intelligence apparatus fails us. Whether it's the CIA or the military intelligence people interrogating prisoners in Iraq, they all seem to have one thing in common: The inability to fuse the intelligence we get from many sources, and use the information to help us both defend our nation and take the fight to the enemy.

--end snip.

Of course, we've not been able to firmly resolve that CBS leaked the the photos as provided them from an insider in the State Department, have we.

Dear Miz Pelosi, had we been able to interrogate, properly, detainees, perhaps more troops would be alive TODAY.

From AP, May 21, 2004:

snip:

The Associated Press is reporting these comments by Nancy Pelosi Thursday:

“House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi called President Bush ‘incompetent’ and said he is responsible for hundreds of deaths of U.S. soldiers in Iraq.

Pelosi, a San Francisco Democrat, is a frequent critic of the president and led the effort against the war in 2003. But this was her strongest criticism of Bush to date.‘He has on his shoulders the deaths of many more troops, because he would not heed the advice of his own State Department of what to expect after May 1 when he ... declared that major combat is over,’ Pelosi said. ‘The shallowness that he has brought to the office has not changed since he got there.’…

...

Pelosi also said the only way to get allies to commit more troops to Iraq is to have a new president.

‘Not to get personal about it, but the president's capacity to lead has never been there,’ Pelosi said. ‘In order to lead, you have to have judgment. In order to have judgment, you have to have knowledge and experience. He has none.’”

--end snip.

And you, Miz Pelosi has been asked how we can get at vital data to prevent the loss of life of our coalition forces and innocents around the world. Has the cat got your tongue? Chavez stunned you to near rapturous excitement?

I still want the details of this deal.

So far, though, everything leaked seems to point toward Bush's position more then the traitorous RINO's. The ACLU is upset, but that could just be reflexive rather then base don actual information of the deal.

The wannabe McCain's were apparently spanked in the House.

There are two ways this goes down. Bush wins, or McCain wins. It's better for America is Bush wins this as McCain is representing the terrorists. It's starting to feel Bush showed Mccain and the RINO's who was elected with the majority of voters NATION wide.

We'll see.
