Sept. 21, 2006 The average temperature of the water near the top of the Earth's oceans has cooled significantly since 2003. The new research suggests that global warming trends are not always steady in their effects on ocean temperatures.
[SNIP]
Lyman said the recent cooling is not unprecedented. "While global ocean temperatures have generally increased over the past 50 years, there have also been substantial decadal decreases," he said. "Other studies have shown that a similar rapid cooling took place from 1980 to 1983. But overall, the long-term trend is warming."

Lyman said the cause of the recent cooling is not yet clear. Research suggests it may be due to a net loss of heat from the Earth. "Further work will be necessary to solve this cooling mystery," he said.

Well the earth actually was warming before it cooled.
Clearly, the global trend of oceans cooling is strong evidence of global warming.
There is no escape: we must have international socialism.
As opposed to suggesting that GW might be a crock.
Now, no more debate! We're too busy doing important science-guy stuff!
We're doomed. Algore said so.
How about five big hurricanes that took the heat out?
Yep, they have us coming and going. If there is a heat wave or increase in hurricanes, then that's evidence of global warming. If there is cooling of the oceans as noted here, it's just a breathing spell before the warming speeds up again.
Great logic.
Lemme see now... The earth is showing a net loss of heat because of global warming?
In other news, I've got some beachfront property in Arizona I'd be willing to sell...
BWAHAHA

"This research suggests global warming isn't always steady but happens with occasional 'speed bumps'," said Josh Willis, a co-author of the study at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Pasadena, Calif. "This cooling is probably natural climate variability. The oceans today are still warmer than they were during the 1980s, and most scientists expect the oceans will eventually continue to warm in response to human-induced climate change."
Please show me the study that links climate change to human activity. We still have temperatures and sea levels below the last major climate spike approx 125000 years ago when seas were 18 ft higher than current levels.
Hey according to Algore, that Arizona land will be beachfront in 50 years, when the ocean rises 400m.
This is some funny stuff.
I wonder if Karl Rove is going to schedule another blizzard during a global warming conference?
Sounds like a way to get further fed funding. We need the money to research why global warming causes colder oceans. Yeah...that will work.
How about minor changes in the temperature differential between two parts of the ocean, causing a thermal convection effect which causes tides to change, which causes the temperature in the areas measured to change. All of which, says NOTHING about the ongoing global temperature changes that are due to forces outside our control.
Revenues from taxing business and SUV owners MUST be instituted! Research grants MUST be funded! Global warming MUST be taken seriously!
Why won't you people just go along with it like you've so nicely gone along with smoking, drugs, asbestos, seat belts, drunk driving and all of our other revenue-generators?
Sincerely,
The Global Warming Industry
