A former Montgomery County scoutmaster has been found guilty of charges he tried to have sex with an undercover law enforcement officer posing as a 12-year-old boy on the Internet.
David Mayberry, 50, of Meadowview Lane in Mont Clare, was convicted Tuesday on one count of attempted unlawful contact with a minor and one count of criminal use of a communication device. A sentencing date has not been scheduled.
Mayberry was an assistant scoutmaster at a Boy Scout Troop in Oaks when he was arrested in November 2005. Mayberry traveled to Bensalem to meet an agent with the state Attorney General's Office posing as a child in an Internet chatroom.
After his November arrest, agents working for Attorney General Tom Corbett discovered evidence that Mayberry, who is HIV positive, had sexual contact with a 14-year-old boy.
Charges that include involuntary deviate sexual intercourse are scheduled to be heard in Montgomery County Court in October.
The boy is healthy, said Kevin Harley, a spokesman for the Attorney General's Office.

Sounds like grounds for the death penalty for child predators if I ever heard one.
It will be interesting to see what his sentence will be.

I would hope so, but this state seems more interested in gay rights than protecting children from predators.
And Mayor Street thinks the Boy Scouts are the bad guys for trying to keep out gays.
That's because he is an idiot.
We don't have any active asst Scoutmasters who don't have children in the troop or have recently graduated kids.

Pedophiles may also have children and abuse their own kids. You can't use having kids as a screening device. It will just give you a false sense of security.
While it is true that there are some pedophiles who are also parents, I believe the vast majority of sexual predators are childless.
...and you may be correct but there's no guarantee. So what choices do parents have? Either keep their children out of Scouts, etc., or sit them down from time to time and enlighten them on what they must do if anyone approaches them in an abnormal way.
Any other suggestions?
Most predators were molested themselves, and then they turn to molest others. The point being, it frequently runs in the family, from parent/monster to child. I trust NO ONE with my children, even in scouting.
For those who are HIV positive and know it? Or for all child predators? The former should be put in the same category as someone who shoots or stabs another...attempted murder.
The risk of applying the death penalty to child molesters, IMO, is that they may see killing their victim as eliminating the witness. Since the punishment for either is death, they leave no witness.

The perverts in society are a minority. The very great majority of people will never harm your children. Children, to grow into healthy adults, need interaction with many others. To deprive them of this normal way of life, is, in itself, a form of child abuse, IMO.
The child is subjected to and controlled by the abnormal fears the parent suffers.
Abnormal fears? In my extended family there have been false accusations of child abuse. Because of this, I am very sensitive to the issue. I will NOT compromise my sense of security and place that trust in the hands of a virtual stranger. I don't KNOW these parents in scouting. They seem nice, BUT...
