well, that's what the primaries are for.
Well, if it were rudy vs. Hillary!, than the answer is easy. i'd just like to see a real conservative candidate trounce a lib.
In my humbleopinion, based on my observations, many folks are either uninformed or misinformed, or both, if that's possible.
A test I give my liberal friends is ask them if they listen to Rush Limbaugh. If they snarl and say they would never listen to Rush, I conclude that they prefer to be uninformed.
Your goal is to be informed of the facts, and then make decisions. It has worked out pretty well for both my kids (26 & 28). See my FR homepage.
I can't wait, looking forward to great debates and a wide open field.
I would vote for Rudy because of his stand on Terrorism and because of his backbone of steel. I don't like his domestic stances at all, but none of that matters if we don't defeat the terrorists.
As for the Rudy critics on my side of the aisle: I want this country to survive. I will vote for the person who has the stones to push the button if necessary. This is the guy.
Couldn't have said it better myself.
You give reasonable points about abortion and gun control - NYC already had strict anti-gun legislation and abortion would be returned to the states anyway.
The biggest issue, after the WOT, IMO, is what to do with Social Security/Medicare/Medicaid. Will Rudy address these issues?
I wouldn't vote for him, but he seems like a good guy.
Considering his policy positions, he would be a good candidate for the Democrats.
OK, OK fine!
I'll run...you twisted my arm.
Shortly after 9/11, a Saudii tried to give Rudy a check for $10m for NYC. Rudy told him to get lost.
Good to hear...or read.
Rudy if you're reading this:
-support REAL tax reform
-cut federal spending - real cuts
-support the WOT
-support real curbs on illegals
-don't take any sh*t from the media
-God Love Dubya, but do away with his "Religion of Peace" policy towards Muslims
-leave abortion and gay marriage to the states
-respect the second amendment and veto any gun control legislation
Do that and you've got my vote.
Thank God!
Can i be Secretary of Transportation? My old profs at college told me they figured I'd be there someday, but only with a Republican pres.
I am no fan of his liberal policies, but we could do a hell of a lot worse. At least they didn't have a commie speaker, just a liberal.
Abortion needs to be outlawed via a Constitutional amendment. This is a national issue. It would make little sense to have abortion legal in one state and illegal in an adjoining one. Madison and Jefferson, I am confident, would have concurred.
And I am highly doubtful that a man who walked, arm-in-arm, with his ex gay roommate in the NYC sodomite pride parade would not be receptive to proposing legalized marriage for these people.
And Giuliani sharing "the same position as Cheney", (you contradict yourself here, as Cheney is for sodomite marriage), means nothing to me. Am I expected to accept sodomite marriages as an inevitable fait accompli just because the Republican Veep has a lesbian daughter?
I'm a Jefferson-Reagan conservative, and an Independent. So that is unlikely to happen.
protecting 2A rights is secured by holding Congress - let's be honest, Bush himself might well have approved some new gun laws, had the republican House not been there to thwart legislative actions on them.
You're assuming a definite majority in Congress would be present who would not be inclined to passing anti-2nd amendment legislation.
Imagine Giuliani in the Oval Office and the Dems taking control of both houses, 'compromises' would most assuredly be made. Would you trust Giuliani to respect the 2nd amendment? I would not.
I've read comments to the effect that McCain has real anger management problems. Because of this, almost no one in the Senate likes him.
the current political climate in this country will never support a constitutional amendment outlawing abortion for adult women in the first trimester. I can see federal restrictions on partial birth, underage parental consent - but the political consensus is not there for anything more then that. once Roe goes - it will return to the states, and different states can set their own policies based on their political consensus.
on the flipside - you will never have federal legislation either MANDATING gay marriage, or BANNING gay civil unions in an individual state. no matter who is president (R or D), neither of those two things would pass. the best we can hope for - is that the federal defense of marriage law holds up, leaving states to do what they wish, with other states denying recognition.
"legal gun ownership in NYC has aways been difficult, Rudy didn't do anything to change that either way".
