It was just made to seem to be the case by the media.

Rick Santorum will win in Pennsylvania, Virginia Senator George Allen will trounce turncoat James Webb, and – surprise – Rep. John Murtha will go down to a much-deserved defeat in Pennsylvania. Sources inside Murtha's campaign told officials of the Boot Murtha group of veterans that Murtha's unfavorable ratings top 50 percent – making him more vulnerable than the media care to admit. One official told me, "If that's true, we'd have to screw up to lose."

I don't know if Murtha just went senile or was craving power, but if that idiot had kept his mouth shut, he could have stayed in that seat for life. Instead, he decided to join the Cindy Sheehan/moonbat fringe and made himself a target for a very able candidate. He could get away with his leftwing-Deanesque rants in San Francisco or Berkeley, but I wonder if he is deluded to think the voters in his district love the pork more than they love a traitor?
