Nothing new here in Illinois. Just politics as usual. But who do you vote for in the next election when your choice is Blago or Topinka?
Yeah, I know. But you'd figure that a guy who is smart enough to get himself elected governor, and who seems to be on the way to being re-elected, would be smart enough to know that several of his recent predecessors wound up doing time in the federal pen.
Mark Twain once said that America had no native criminal class except Congress. If he were around today, he'd have to include Illinois politicians.
We are pretty much out of luck this time out for a choice for governor. During primary season, my tagline here was "Just say 'No' to Judy Baar Topinka." I'm not inclined to leave the spot blank, and I'm not inclined to vote third-party, so I might just have to hold my nose and vote for Judy. (I haven't really decided yet, though.) I find Blago to be a loathesome, unprincipaled punk who doesn't deserve to be re-elected. Judy's main strength in my mind is that she isn't him.
