I'm starving for more smack-down McCain info and wish Rush would have elaborated more. I've been waiting the whole program to hear about this backfiring on McCain and I didn't get enough of a fix, darn it!

U.S. detainee bill may be filibustered

UPI--White House ally and Senate Majority Leader, Bill Frist, R-Tenn., says he will filibuster a detainee rights bill some Republicans oppose softening.

The White House bill seeks to water down elements of the Geneva Conventions guidelines on interrogation techniques and culpability of intelligence officials, which is being challenged by three Republican senators -- John Warner, R-Va., John McCain, R-Ariz., and Lindsey Graham, R-S.C.

Frist threatened the filibuster, as "the Warner-McCain-Graham bill falls short" of preserving intelligence programs and protecting classified information from terrorists at closed military tribunals, The Washington Post said.

Frist conceded that a majority of the 100 senators back the rival group on military commissions but said there are not enough to block a filibuster, which requires a super-majority of 60.

Congress is scheduled to adjourn in nine days and the newest wrangling means there is a possibility Congress might not enact detainee legislation before the Nov. 7 midterm elections, the Post said.
