In the days when Texas governors had two year terms, Preston Smith and Dolph Briscoe won reelection. Bill Clements served two terms, 1979-83 and 1987-91, which were not consecutive. Rick Perry filled out George Bush's term and won reelection on his own in 2002.

In the days when Texas governors had two year terms, Preston Smith and Dolph Briscoe won reelection. Actually, Briscoe was first elected to a 2-year term in 1972 and then re-elected in 1974 as the first 4-year term Texas Governor.
