Kinky Friedman Closing Gap on Rick Perry
surveyusa.com ^

Posted on 09/19/2006 8:05:58 PM PDT by Lunatic Fringe

Perry and Strayhorn have regressed, Strayhorn by a considerable margin, while Bell (15 to 23) and Friedman (16 to 23) have moved up. Bell is finally consolidating Democratic support (from a pathetic 32 percent in April to 44% in July and 55% this time) and is getting more Independents (from 10% to 18%), while Friedman has picked up Republicans (from 10% to 23%) and more Indies (32% to 39%). Both Perry (65% to 56%) and Strayhorn (20% to 14%) have seen their GOP strength decline. Strayhorn has also seen her Democratic support wane, as she's dropped from 30% to 20%.

I am also voting Kinky.

Gov. Good-Hair pushed the business tax in Texas.

Besides, Texas governors have limited powers, far less than governors in other states. It's our Texas heritage to be distrustful of executive powers. The real power in Texas lies in the Lt. Governor, being head of the TX Senate.

Perry is polling at 35%. He's in the danger zone. Kinky is at 23%.

Perry will sit at least at 35% for the entire election. For Kinky or any of the other dwarfs to win, one of the others will have to lose all of their support and for all that support to go to a single candidate. That just isn't going to happen.

Yeah, I doubt Kinky supporters care about facts.

A state income tax would require the voters approving a constitutional amendment. Not likely.

Exactly. So, we will back in the same position where we were before. With the Supreme Court telling the legislature to implement a system, or they will implement one for us. The business tax isn't perfect, but NO ONE else has come up with a better fix.

I think Kinky is an interesting person, but can he really be a serious candidate. Let's think about it. When was the last successful Independent??? Ventura turned out to be an embarrassment.

They talk a good talk, and yes they are entertaining, but they usually fall short.

Exactly. I'd love for there to be a better solution to school finance then new taxes but short of what the legislature did, the only options were a constitutional amendment creating an income tax or one that made "robin hood" to be constitutional.

Kinky wants to solve the 'education crisis' by giving teachers more money and not testing the students...lol. As a conservative from way back..I say it is time to TEST THE TEACHERS!! Kinky is giving in to pressure groups..don't be fooled!

Imus promotes Kooky every morning on his radio program. He is giving him a lot of free publicity and money too. Gonna be a sad situation if Kooky becomes governor of Texas. I thought Texans were a little more sophisticated than that. Guess not. :-/

Kinky will not be able to get the legislature to pass the legalization of marijuana (or gay marriage) through......they will pass almost everything else....PLUS, Kinky is on record as being a one term gov......THAT works for me!

If you say so. The Legislature seems to have the most power. Do not let anybody influence your mind, though.

You misrepresent his position. The TAKS test is a failure in Texas. The only reason it is implemented is for Federal funding, which Kinky believes is unneccesary. He wants education funded completely from Texas dollars, and he wants to raise pay to attract better teachers.

He recognizes the correlation between education and poverty/crime.

I'm just going by what Brad told me......of course this is POLITICS. I have a great deal of respect for Paul Bettencourt and he was against it so there must be something to it. I'll prolly end up voting for Kinky... he probably won't win but he might finish high enough that it will wake up those boobs in Austin that they better get in shape or they may find themselves back home in their next election.

God help me, but I might just move to Mississippi if Kinky wins. Either that, or I'll actively start the 'recall kinky' drive the minute he's elected.

Anti-death penalty.
Anti-2nd amendment.
Pro-drugs.

Yeah, that's just the big three against him, without knowing how he stands on state income taxes, lower property taxes, crime and punishment (very lenient, from what I DO know of him).

Uh, yeah... see, the Senate is part of the Legislature.

Amazing that Texas has five candidates running for governor and not one is a conservative. Two claim to be Republican but they sloughed over from the Democrat aisle a long time ago and haven't got the Democrat tax-and-spend blood out of their systems.

Perry will still win because a large percentage will vote GOP no matter what and there's no run-off for this election. Strayhorn's biggest problem right now is convincing voters she didn't just die.

Should be one of the more interesting debates we've had in a long time though.

It is beyond silly to vote for somebody like Ventura or Kinky who have absolutely no qualifications to be the Chief Executive of one of these United States in such serious times as these.

People who vote for personalities shouldn't be allowed to vote.

To serve as Governor of Texas, a person must be at least thirty years old, a United States citizen, and a resident of Texas for at least five years preceding his or her election. These are the only legal requirements to hold the office.

Looks to me like he's qualified for the job.

From Kinky's own web page:
"Friedman calls Willie Nelson "the hillbilly Dalai Lama," and has drawn a lot of inspiration from Nelson about his positions on biodiesel and renewable energy sources such as solar power and wind farms."

funny..Willie just got arrested for mushrooms. Maybe they were to power his bus.

Also from Kinkey's webpage:

"Friedman's newly unveiled energy plan for Texas aims to reverse the state's position as a net importer of energy by expanding existing development of renewable energies while improving conventional power generation. If elected, he plans to fuel the fleet of 35,000 Texas school buses with biodiesel and to appoint Nelson as "chief energy Texas head."

LOL..

Continued:

"Friedman has a lot of big and wild ideas, including using food to raise funds to fuel his visions. He started an olive oil company while stuck in a limo with his friend Farouk Shami, a Palestinian hairdresser who pioneered the Chi Iron. Farouk & Friedman Olive Oil, "Oil from the Holy Land," is a collaborative effort with proceeds donated to Oasis of Peace, a charity dedicated to creating peace between Arabs and Jews.

Profits from another venture, Kinky Friedman's Private Stock Salsa, "goes directly to the dogs," he says. It supports the Utopia Animal Rescue Ranch, what Friedman calls a sort of "orphanage, hospice, leprosarium, soup kitchen, halfway house and rescue for stray and abused animals" that he co-founded with his cousin Nancy. It's located on his ranch outside of Medina, Texas."

The whole state will go to the dogs if we elect Kinky. Sorry folks, but that is the truth.
