CRAWFORD- Hazardous material crews are trying to cleanup a major chemcial spill following a train derailment.
News Channel 25 crews report the train derailed in the center of Crawford, at the intersection of FM 317 and FM 185.
Police Chief Donnie Tidmore reports that Ethanolomine, a chemical pesticide, did leak out of one of the rail cars. It has now been contained. There was concern that maybe ammonia and other chemicals had leaked out at one point. However, emergency crews tell us only pesticide spilled out.
"If anyone is experiencing any breathing difficulties please get to a hospital," said Chief Tidmore.
People living in at least a half mile radius from the accident have been told to leave thier homes. City officials want Residents on the east side of Crawford are being directed to the Community Center. Those people living on the west side of the city are told to head to Crawford Elementary School.

Train Derails; Evacuations Ordered
(September 19, 2006)—As many as 30 cars of a freight train derailed Tuesday evening at a crossing on Highway 185 in Crawford, and reports from the scene indicated that hazardous materials may be involved.
Residents within a one-mile radius of the derailment were evacuated, according to reports from the scene.
Deputies were dispatched to the scene of the derailment at about 6:15 p.m. Tuesday.
Fire units and ambulances were also sent to the scene.
The derailment has blocked Highway 85, according to reports from the scene, and officers are directing traffic away from the immediate area.
