John Faso was nearly elected controller in heavily Democratic New York State three years. Had George Pataki given him a push, he would have defeated Alan Hevesi, a man with tons of baggage. Faso was even endorsed by several Democratic clubs. Now that he is running against Eliot Spitzer, he is being ignored. I don't hear anybody phoning WABC Radio to discuss his candidacy. Ed Koch has predicted 12 years of Eliot Spitzer - Heaven help us! Can anything be done to help John Faso, who would be an excellent governor?

New York Republicans are too involved in the takeover of the Republican National Committee to be involved in any actual local or regional races. They must push Rudy Giuliani down everyone't throats in time for 2008, party welfare be damned.

Why? Because NY is hopelessly over the edge.

"Why is the New York GOP Turning its back on John Faso?"

Because they are Democrats

There is NO such thing as the GOP in NY.

Spencer is capable of giving Hillary fits in the senate race, gets ZERO support.

Pataki is nuttier than John Kerry.

The New York GOP is a strange organization. There are some great people in it and some genuine conservatives. But generally it is composed of machine politicians and hacks. Think "Nelson Rockerfeller".

The New York Conservative Party is where the real GOP hides out.

The usual donors are not giving money to Faso. Possibly because they or their wives or girlfriends have had abortions and they cannot face the fact that it is a horrific evil.

It is a rough division, with many exceptions, but generally, country club Republicans = money = are Republican because they want lower taxes = are not Republican for social conservative issues. But John IS a lower-taxes kind of guy as well.

My prediction is that Spencer will do much better in November than Faso.

The New York County headquarters is not helping matters by displaying McFarland literature on the table as you walk in (um, yes, she is off the ballot, but someone seems not to care), Faso literature only if you climb the stairs to the second floor, and Spencer literature nowhere.

I have watched year after year as good people leave the state for safe (and affordable) havens like NC and FLA.

Here in Suffolk county we went from Republican bastion to Democrat control in 6-8 years......

.....I would leave if I could....

.....get out while you can.

I'm not sure they are turning their backs on Faso. In my neck of the woods they are planning town hall meetings and a get out the vote effort, all of which we've heard about from the state party.

Sure, I'd like to see a bigger push, but I'm not sure how well funded the state party even is these days given how badly Pataki has mismanaged it.

Al D'Amato and George Pataki have destroyed the GOP in NY. After a term of Spitzer and Cuomo NY'ers may start coming back, ie, liberal judicial appointments, higher taxes et al.

Every once in awhile I bug the NYS GOP about their lack of support for conservative candidates.

Here is contact info for the NYS Republican Party, if anyone wants to send them an e-mail, personal note to Stephen Minarek or call.

The New York GOP is nearly as corrupt and "moderate" as the New Jersey and California GOPs.
It's just another wasteland.

The GOP is its own worst enemy in the Blue states. Think California, Illinois, etc. When has a true conservative ever had a decent shot with the milksops who run the party in those areas?

The good news, such as it is, is that if the governor's office in NY really is a figurehead position then Spitzer won't make things any worse than they already are.

Thanks to Al D'Amato and George Pataki the NY GOP is in shambles.Unfortunately, it will take the new administration of Spitzer & Cuomo screwing things up to rebuild the GOP.
