31 Arrested in Immigration Raid

ST. PETERSBURG - Immigration officials arrested 31 workers from a cleaning company at Tropicana Field this week. Officials from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agreed not to publicize the raid because representatives of Tropicana Field cooperated, said ICE spokeswoman Pam McCullough.

McCullough said she was not sure where ICE received its information about the cleaning crew members who worked for Knight FM. Most of those arrested during Wednesday's raid were taken to the Pinellas County Jail to be charged with possession and use of fraudulent documents. The other six are awaiting deportation.

Most were Mexicans. Others were from Guatemala.

Richard Vaughn, vice president of communications for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, issued a written statement:

"The individuals who were arrested were employed by subcontractors working for the stadium cleaning contractor and are not Devil Rays employees. We have pledged to give the authorities our full cooperation in this matter."

Knight FM did not return a phone message

I love the proactive approach. Keep it quiet? Not if a freeper gets ahold of the story!

The same thing that Wal-Mart said and W-M wasn't given a free pass.

Just the latest per-election window dressing in my opinion. ICE resouces would be better spent going after gang-bangers and putting their ACLU enablers up on RICO charges.

This is sort of like the city who will close swimming pools, fire halls and police stations while they and their cronies continue to rake in tax dollars for boondoggles just to show the taxpaying sheeple they are serious about controlling spending.

Deported back to Mexico? LOL They'll just waltz over the border and be back here with fake documents again by next month.

Great point. I think the company that used them should be sued by their competition and their owners prosecuted for aiding criminals.

The election is a month and a half away. Got to at least look like we give a damn about illegal immigration.

If you kicked out all the illegals, Canadians and cubans here in Florida that are here because of the stupid foot on U.S. soil b.s. rule then Florida might just be a nice place to live again.
