Australia considers test for would-be citizens

Australian immigrants will have to show they are "fair dinkum" — or genuine — by taking a tough citizenship test and waiting longer before applying for a passport, the government said yesterday.
The proposal has divided Australians with some welcoming it as a way of blocking potential Islamic extremists and others dismissing it as an act of embarrassing jingoism.
The prime minister, John Howard, wants a test to assess applicants' knowledge of Australian history, values and customs. "Most people who come to this country are fair dinkum about becoming part of the community," he said.

As much as I love America, the Liberals here are just to... idiotic would be a polite way to put it.
Insane in the membrane would be another.
(Of course, if I'm going to accuse anyone of being idiotic, it would help to spell correctly myself | just to = just too)
Guess they have a trace of the Western Liberal Disease, too. Not as bad a case as here, though.
One requirement for citizenship is that the applicant should have to eat several strips of bacon.
You might want to re-think that one ...
