Hmmm. Still think they are irrevelant?

MONTREAL HEARING HELD FOR 5 SIKHS
By DOUGLAS MARTIN, SPECIAL TO THE NEW YORK TIMES
Five Sikhs charged with conspiring to possess explosives with intent to injure appeared today at an open hearing in provincial court here, and the presiding judge agreed to a defense request that no information about the proceedings be published or broadcast. Several press reports in Canada and India have suggested that the suspects planned to bomb an Air-India jumbo jet leaving from Kennedy International Airport in New York last Saturday night. The hearing today, to discuss whether bail will be granted for the five men, is to continue on Thursday. Although the hearing was open to the public, Judge Jean-Pierre Bonin ordered that journalists report nothing of what happened in the courtroom. Under the judge's order, it would be a criminal offense to publish the prosecution's account of its case.

No angle there at all. Sikhs are a bit irrelevant to the whole terrorism thing.

I have only known a few Sikhs, but I can say this: I have never heard one bash America, they tend to work hard and be family people, they learn English, and in general I think they are one of the most beneficial immigrant groups here. I have met a jerk, but he was all of the above, just a jerk. I prefer to think he was an exception.

"Which part of the situation are you referring to?"

I'm sorry but these kids going around killing other kids for kicks is getting more strange then fiction. What are we raising?

Subsubsubculters are the product of boredom and mental idleness, yet even they spawn whole industries to see to their needs. There are Goth clothing sites, Goth paraphernalia sites, etc. etc. just to support the kind of weirdness these people play with. But, one might say, "Hey, its just a hobby, don't take it seriously!" I wish this guy didn't. He would be alive, so that he could wake up and grow up, and his victim wouldn't be dead. It is a real problem for some, to separate fantasy from reality, if they choose to hide from reality.

I hadn't heard he was of Sikh origin, either.

I read it in one Toronto paper, the Red Star, I believe.

However, aside from an older relative, his family weren't practicing Sikhs, i.e. no beards or turbans.

Most of the Goths are the brighter students, those who are more than a little bored in class, and often the ones catching flak at home for being different. You'd be amazed at what you can do with them if you listen and give good advice. If they'd had Goths way back then when I was in high school, I'd probably have been one of them, except I've never really been a joiner.

I hadn't heard he was of Sikh origin, either. Is that being widely reported in Canada? I'm wondering whether its not getting much press in the US is because the fact isn't noteworthy, or because the MSM is being PC.

Given that Gill wrote on his website that he hated God, religion and religious people, it's pretty hard to call him a Sikh, let alone a member of any religion - except maybe Satanism (something that was also on his website, according to a MySpace-style test he took). That Gill was born into Sikhism is hardly relevant, since he pretty much renounced it.
