This actually worries me. I think the Vatican is now a tempting target that the Jihadis have not focused on before. The Italian army and civilian forces certainly do not frighten them.
And I wonder who would retaliate if the Vatican were attacked?
For the record, pretty much anybody who can get across Italian borders can go to the Vatican. Not so with Mecca.

I hope an apology will NOT be forthcoming. The religion of peace would only use it for propaganda.

This is a very dire long term problem within the Arab world.
A recent UN report indicated that there are fewer than 1,100 books translated into Arabic annually and there have been more books translated in Spain in one year than in the last 1000 years in Arab countries. It gets worse, I have read some reports that even when books had become available, few people had an interest in actually reading them.
We are dealing with a cult that has intentionally been kept in the dark for a thousand years.
The Western world went through their enlightenment period a long time ago and has become, generationally, far more sophisticated in their ability to reason.
Christianity not only allows for an individual to have free will and a desire for discovery, it is encouraged. Islam, for way too many, does the opposite.

I'm not convinced that Benedict made any mistake.
I think, having seen how JPII saw the danger of Communism, he is starting (through diplomatic and careful words) to draw the ire of Islam to the church.

Again I say:
The Main Stream Media have twisted the intent of Pope Benedict XIV's message entitled: "Three Stages in the Program of De-Hellenization" which he presented at the University of Regensburg. And I believe the real message is . . . "Not to act reasonably is contrary to the nature of God."
If Islam and Mohammedanism cannot act reasonably, how can they dialogue their culture and religion with other religions? And as we see, with the assistance of the MSM, Mohammedans are willing to behead and kill those who would say that their religion is violent.
Does the word "reasonably" have no Arabic translation? Apparently so.
In a word: Maranatha!

Well, the Pope didn't apologize for quoting the emperor, but because his statements were interpreted wrongly by the Muslims. I just hope he doesn't apologize personally, because this will make it look like it was the Pope expressing those statements instead of quoting the Byzantine emperor.
Anyway, the violence with which the Muslims world has erupted over these words, and the way they reacted over a few cartoons a few months ago, pretty much confirms what the Byzantine emperor said 7 centuries ago.

I am hoping and praying that you are right. His Holiness seems too smart to fire up something like this unless he had 'counted the cost'.
I have a feeling that the Germans would not take a lot of prompting to go on the warpath behind Benedict.
Time to finish what THEY started It may be that only the Church can finish off this threat, the nations of the world are too tired, defeated and polluted.

The word "reasonable" is now a relative term to both the MSM and the Mohammedans.
I have thrown in the MSM in with the appeasement folks on the left.

The next and possibly final world war will involve Islam; you can bank on that.

It is amazing the reaction they have when someone questions them. They are brainwashed cult followers. Just keep that in mind and all their future actions will seem plausible.

Well that's too bad, isn't it? For this doctrine (the doctrine of the cross) is, indeed, foolishness to the destroyed; but to us, who are saved, it is the power of God. Kill them or suffer the same fate before furthering the Kingdom. Given those choice I chose death - for them.

The Pope will retract and apologize tomorrow...Bet the farm.
The heat will be on by too many nations (Europe) who have too much to lose.
