Please, explain, Sen. McCain
Washington Times ^ | 9/19/06

President Bush wasted no time yesterday responding to the Senate Armed Services Committee's passage of legislation that could damage the ability of intelligence agencies to obtain information from terrorist detainees. On Thursday, four Republicans [on] the Senate Armed Services Committee -- John Warner and John McCain, Lindsey Graham and Susan Collins -- joined committee Democrats in passing flawed legislation governing detainee treatment that fails to respond to Bush's critical request. The lawmakers must clarify what interrogators can and cannot do when interrogating suspected jihadists.

... ...it would be difficult to imagine a more irresponsible decision... American forces captured Abu Zubaydah -- a top bin laden aide who ran terrorist camps in which some of the September 11 hijackers trained -- several months after the attacks. ... Zubaydah refused to cooperate with U.S. interrogators. So, the CIA, used an unspecified "alternative" interrogation methods approved by Justice Department lawyers. Eventually, Zubaydah cracked and provided information that enabled the military to prevent an al Qaeda attack inside the United States.

Zubaydah also provided information that lead to the capture of Khalid Sheikh Mohammad and Ramzi Binalshibh, who helped organize the September 11 attacks. They also led authorities to the capture of the leader al Qaeda's south Asian affiliate, Hambali, and 17 operatives. ... Hambali acknowledged that terrorists were being prepared for new attacks on the U.S. , probably using airplanes,...

But the concerns expressed by Bush and CIA Director Michael Hayden have failed to budge McCain. On Thursday, the Arizona Republican disparaged Hayden's legitimate concerns about the Senate bill as an attempt to "protect his reputation at the risk of America's reputation." It's a cheap shot. McCain should explain why he is endangering a vital interrogation program that has saved many American lives.

McCain has always been a self-serving idiot.

He doesn't have the ability to understand how his actions endanger America.

The word RINO is too good for McCain. He is a maniacal megalomaniac who is likely being blackmailed for spilling classified information and ratting out fellow POW's to the Viet Cong during the war.

The VC recorded his confessions and I'll never be convinced that the left isn't ultimately in contol of him, which explains his sabotgage of the Republican party and this latest stunt.

McCrazy has never cared about Americans. He is only concerned about himself. He proved that when he gave the cong every bit of information he knew that they wanted.

I gave them my ship's name and squadron number, and confirmed that my target had been the power plant." Page 193-194, Faith of My Fathers by John McCain

He told the officer, "O.K., I'll give you military information if you will take me to the hospital." -U.S. News and World Report, May 14, 1973 article written by former POW John McCain

You're right to call them "subhumans." Calling them any kind of animal demeans that animal. The vilest thing in the world is a subhuman.

McCain thinks and operates like a little girl. We must recruit J.D. Hayworth to replace him in 2008.

McCain has always been a self-serving idiot.

He doesn't have the ability to understand how his actions endanger America.

Remember McCain was a POW for over 7 years in Viet-Nam--7 years of being brainwashed in communist ideas--when the POW's were released several demanded McCain be charged with treason. The military debriefs long term POW's then discharges them if they are allowed to stay in the Military they are NEVER again placed in positions of trust.John McCain is a very good example of a manchurian candidate--brainwashed and trying to become our president--Damn I hope that never happens.

***There has never been one US enemy that has adhered to the GC.***

Actually there was - one. Germany in WWII.

The POWS in Luftwaffe and Wehrmacht camps were treated in accordance with the GC.

In fact the Soviet soldiers in the German POW camps did not want to be repatriated back to the USSR, but they were. Then Stalin killed them and/or sent them to Siberian Gulags for 'treason'.

Can Sen. McCain point to a SINGLE example of an American serviceman captured post-WWII who has received proper Geneva Convention type treatment? Perhaps there is a handful of times ONE soldier got decent treatment without compromising his integrity to receive it, but those are the exception and can be countered with far more examples of improper treatment by the very same opponents.

It is understandable why the subject is so personal to Sen. McCain and we are all sympathetic to his history. However, he is not acting as a single victim here, he is a United States Senator who needs to be putting the need of the country above personal preference. I daresay based on his statements that he is ethically bound to recuse himself from the subject.

Could someone please explain to Sen. McCain that the reign in Spain, falls mainly on the plain?

How long will we maintain his aggravation of the pain while he makes our soldiers fight in vain?

If he had half a brain, he'd know we see him as totally vain!

Make him cease to dain to go against the grain, lest we find him to be abjectly insane!

If Hillary is elected-so be it-we will have to build this country up from ruins after 4 years of her-but God willing-it can be done.

If someone like Hillary wins in '08 the GOP will oppose them out of partisanship. If a RINO wins there will be no opposition. If the GOP nominates someone of McCain's ilk I'll vote third party for the top ticket and do what I can to build a conservative congress.

I have to admit, though I sided with McCain at first, I cannot believe that he has not come forward with a complete and full explanation of his reasons and logic.

Same goes for Senator Warner, Graham, and Generals Powell and Vessey.

Maybe tomorrow on the Sunday talk shows.....

This is not only stupid, it is frightening.

Why are these Senators so hell bent on giving ADVANTAGE (not fairness, advantage) to the terrorists trying to kill our children?

McCain is a traitor to his country, once a hero, now a traitor. Benedict Arnold was the same.

He was NEVER a hero. Being shot down does not make a person a hero. A hero is someone who shows great courage. Someone who sells out their country is a traitor not a hero.

He could point to himself, but he received preferential treatment because he gave the cong all the information they wanted.
