Democrats Meander in a New New Direction
Washington Post ^ | 9/15/06 | Dana Milbank

Posted on 09/15/2006 5:32:10 AM PDT by rmgatto

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, the woman who will become speaker of the House if Democrats get lucky in November, began her weekly news conference yesterday holding up a red-white-and-blue brochure.

"I hope you all received 'A New Direction for America,' " she said, standing at a lectern that bore the same slogan. She called the manifesto "a compilation of many of the initiatives taken by our House Democratic Caucus that encompasses our new direction for all Americans."

Dana Milbank proves the theory that, if you have enough monkeys typing randomly, they eventually will produce the complete works of Shakespeare. He gets one right, but he'll come back to his senses soon.

It seems the DBM has settled on their post election talking point in the event of the Dems failing to retake the House : the GOP scared the simpleton voters.

We're fighting terrorists abroad instead of here. We haven't been attacked in over 5 years. Unemployment is practically non-existent. The economy is growing. Inflation is low. Interest rates are low. The deficit is shrinking.

The Democrats platform is they want to change all that. Sounds like a good strategy to me!

Well, it is the prospect of what threatens us that scares me, both outside and inside the country. So, in a way, the talking point is correct. It's just, as usual, lacking any context a sane adult would agree with.

But you don't have to be a sane adult in the Democratic Party or at the Washington Post these days.

They were really counting on the high gas prices to carry them over the goal line.

It's typical of the DBM to always portray any GOP win as accomplished by some underhanded means.

Good points. The GOP should hammer this home in ads in all the vulnerable districts. Talk about the positives. Try not to dwell only on the Dems' wretched record of defeatism. The latter is important too though. The Repubs must strike a balance in their ads and the thrust of their message. If they do it right, they can keep their majorities.

Their one-sided hostility will have one of two effects:

1) it will convince a critical mass of voters that Republicans really are a systemic danger to the system, toppling us into democratic totalitarianism (basically, Saddam-style gangsterism)

or

2) it will convince the middle that there cannot be that much wrong with that many people.

I'm still undecided as to which outcome is the likelier.

Turn it into a race between Bush and Pelosi.

The Dem's "manifest destiny" has now been reduced to if Democrats get lucky in November? Their internal polls must REALLY suck!

I don't see anything new about their direction on any of this.

Yes Dana, those nasty Republicans are playing to fear, not those cushy, soft Democrats. Wait, aren't the Democrats the ones saying every day that we're less safe than we were on 9/11 (all evidence to the contrary)? That's not playing to fear? Put your Floyd R. Turbo, American hunting gear back on Dana. It's the way you do your day job that's the joke.

I think part of the Dems strategy for success this November was based on the premise of a dispirited GOP voter base. If that turns out not to be the case it's makes their job much more difficult.

Good point - I left that one off the list. Gas prices tumbling.

"Try not to dwell only on the Dems' wretched record of defeatism."

Exactly right. To win elections, consistently, the GOP must offer voters solid reasons to vote FOR their candidates, not just reasons to vote against the Dims. The Dim's only real plank for their platform is "Kill Bush" and really nothing else....all the GOP needs to do is show factual successes in both domestic and foreign policy and the Dims won't have a prayer come November.

You know the DNC already had ads produced about that issues. Oh well money down the drain.

IMHO this is just typical Milbank: attack GOP 80% of the time, attack dems 20% -- for not being leftist enough. He's just mad dems dropped impeachment talk

"She called the manifesto "a compilation of many of the initiatives taken by our House Democratic Caucus that encompasses our new direction for all Americans.""

Manifesto, how appropriate.

I have a copy of the Democrats new direction. Please enjoy it.

In 1958, Cleon Skoussen, former FBI agent, revealed in his book, THE NAKED COMMUNIST, the long term goals of the communist agenda. This information is also contained not only in the Congressional Record (August 1963), but also in the Communist Manifesto itself. For the sake of brevity, only a few of those goals are listed here:

U.S. acceptance of coexistence as the only alternative to atomic war.

Develop the illusion that total disarmament by the U.S. would be a demonstration of moral strength.

Permit free trade between all nations regardless of communist affiliation and regardless of whether or not items could be used for war.

Provide American aid to all nations regardless of communist domination.

Set up East West Germany as separate states in spite of Khrushchev's promise in 1955 to settle the German question by free elections under supervision of the U.S.

Allow all Soviet satellites individual representation in the United Nations.

Promote the United Nations as the only hope for mankind. If its charter is rewritten, demand that it be set as a one-world government with its own independent armed forces.

Resist any attempt to outlaw the Communist Party.

Do away with loyalty oaths.

Capture one or both of the political parties in the U.S.

Use technical decisions of the courts to weaken basic American institutions by claiming their activities violate civil rights.

Get control of the schools. Use them as transmission belts for socialism and current communist propaganda. Get control of the teachers associations.

Gain control of all student newspapers.

Infiltrate the press. Get control of book review assignments, editorial writing, policy-making positions.

Gain control of key positions in radio, TV and motion pictures.

Eliminate all laws governing obscenity by calling them censorship and a violation of free speech and free press.

Break down cultural standards of morality by promoting pornography and obscenity in books, magazines, motion pictures and TV.

Present homosexuality, degeneracy and promiscuity as normal, natural and healthy.

Infiltrate the churches and replace revealed religion with social religion. Discredit the Bible and emphasize the need for intellectual maturity which does not need a religious crutch.

Eliminate prayer or any phase of religious expression in the schools on the grounds that it violates the principles of separation of church and state.

Discredit the American Constitution by calling it inadequate, old-fashioned, out of step with modern needs, a hindrance to cooperation between nations on a worldwide basis.

Belittle all forms of American culture and discourage the teaching of American history on the grounds that it was only a minor part in the big picture.

Eliminate all laws or procedures which interfere with the operation of the communist apparatus.

Eliminate the House Committee on Un-American Activities.

Discredit the family as an institution. Encourage promiscuity and easy divorce.

Emphasize the need to raise children away from the negative influence of parents.

Create the impression that violence and insurrection are legitimate aspects of the American traditions; that students and special interest groups should rise up and use united force to solve economic, political and social problems.
