I thought it meant someone like Eric Rudolph, who'd blow up innocent people in the name of God.

Naaahhh..., that's more of a Catholic Tradition (maybe more historical now, however), who liked to persecute and kill other Christians. I think Eric Rudolph was reading too much into his own Catholic traditions. He should have stuck with Evangelical (historic and true) Christianity.
