I don't watch TV anymore because... there's nothing to watch. (We don't have cable.)

Even with cable, there's still nothing to watch.

Well, we have no TV and no cell phone, so I guess our choice is easy. (We DO watch DVDs on the computer screen, but that is hardly mandatory for our inner happiness.)

Well, let's see. Cell phones can connect to the Internet and download streaming audio and video, including motion pictures and broadcast television programs. Computers can make telephone calls using VoIP and can certainly download and play movies and programs on any size screen. Televisions can be hooked up to WebTV and some cable/satellite providers provide two-way service, and cable companies are strating to offer telephone service.

So, my PC can mimic a phone and a TV in any size (Blackberry and Palm to giant Plasma), a phone can mimic a small computer or portable TV, and a TV can provide some of the features of a phone or computer. I guess the convergence is happening, and the question is almost moot.

We have basic cable and there's still nothing to watch. I can flip through about 25 channels (including 10 foreign language ie Spanish, Korean) and 75% of the programming at any particular time seems to be commercials. The only thing of any interest are some of the Spanish novellas (for the hot chicks/psuedo-cultural cliches) & PBS (eg Nova).

I dumped TV in '97. It was a big deal then, but I get the feeling it is a less and less radical thing to do as time marches on.

If I was into televised sports, it would have been difficult. But I'm not.

I watch precisely ninety minutes of TV per day: two episodes of Futurama and one of The Family Guy. I also watch an hour of Battlestar Galactica per week when new episodes are broadcast. Other than that, I do not watch television. Why would I?

Don't delude yourself that you would have something to watch ... if only you had cable!

We have a satelllite [cable not available here]. Over the past decade there has been a steady decline in watchable "shows". Everything has become nasty and/or violent ... or just plain stupid and unwatchable. The only things we watch are Fox news at 6 p.m. and baseball games during the season. The rest of the time our TV is merely a conduit for the videos we watch ... and we are very selective there, as well ... most of what we watch is a decade or more old.
