My kids told me about this last night. I hadn't heard a word of it.

I thought it was Terrell Owens there for a second.

"She's got these long clothes on and an old-fashioned hairdo," he said. "You know it sort of makes you real mad."Real mad that he can't ogle the shape of her butt and publicly order her to strut it for him, I guess.
Glad he's gone.

Unfortunately, senile old King Willie Don and Mother Hubbard Owens seem to have taken one another out, allowing hard-core lefty Peter "I hate Republicans" Franchot to get the nomination. The Dem nomination carries about a 95% chance of being elected to any state-wide office in the Peoples Democratic State of Maryland. Schaefer was decent about cooperating with Governor Ehrlich and Owens probably would have been OK, but having Franchot on the Board of Public Works along with the Dems' veto-proof majority in the legislature pretty well neuters our Pubbie Guv. (Even if he can manage to get reelected.)

"Show me a man who is 84 years old who doesn't look at girls' backsides," or as I would put it, "Show me a man who is 84 years old who doesn't look at girls' backsides, and I show you a dead man." I don't see that as wrong if it is the context I think it is. Similar things can be said about women. Its just a light look at human nature.
I Really dont have a position on this race, but when women get into the political arena the have no excuse to complain about their gender being used against them when the full capacity to respond in kind against their opposition face to face. Don't call to them a sexist and run.

The new news was his criticizing the appearance and wardrobe of a 62-year-old woman. One of his opponents. During a campaign.
It's, um, "less than professional", aside from being rude and pretty damned dumb, and does not assure the public that their 84-year-old comptroller is not suffering from dementia.

I am so very happy that this spendthrift harpy did not win. She did her level best to ruin Anne Arundel County.
Whatever else you can say about Willy Don Schaefer ( and you can say a lot), he always put Maryland first.

From the perspective of a Maryland State employee and a taxpayer in Maryland, William Schafer is a cancer that was cut out way too late.

This is a man who would have his tax paid limo take him to private citizens homes so he could confront them for something they said. Interesting that Marylanders would overlook this behavior

You sound a little less than fully informed as to the facts of this particular incident. It was not just the checking out of the caboose. You're right, we all do that. In this case, though, the young lady in question brought him a cup of tea, was walking away and nearly out of the room when he called her back and told her to walk away again (for his viewing pleasure). It was not simple checking her out.

He always put Baltimore first, that's where his heart has always been. He reflected in an interview that the job of mayor was his favorite job.
He certainly was no big fan of the eastern shore of MD, as they were no big fans of his.

He thinks he is untouchable. That sort of behavior in public by elected or appointed officials is unacceptable. Good Bye Schafer. We can do better.

I don't care how much a guy
looks. It's when he can't seem to shut up about it, or starts saying he's "real mad" that 62-year-old women aren't dressing to show their asses, that I start to wonder if he's still all there upstairs.
I was looking for the original remarks from 9/5 (haven't found them yet), and came across some radio article about Schaefer being asked "if his apology was sincere", to which Shaefer began singing "I'm sincere, I'm sincere" to no recognizable tune. Outdoors in front of reporters, the week before election day.
Yeah, that Schaefer has a mind like a steel trap.

His comments about running for Mayor of Ocean City were hilarious (after he lost the Comptroller race).

I've only lived in Maryland for a couple years. Apparently hubby still has some work ahead of him, bringing me up to speed on Maryland politics. :D

Not really much too much to say about it. We currently have the first Republican governor in 40 years. Our two Democrat US Senators are the most liberal in government. MD is 2/3rds registered Democrat voters. We have extremely restrictive gun laws. We tax in the top 5 states. We pay State employees in the bottom 5 (including pensions). Baltimore is frequently the most violent city in the country for any given year. Our best resource, the Bay, is a toilet. But we do have mountains and a sea shore. A beautiful state if you can get by the political environment.

Something about OC officials said he can't may the 4 month residency requirement by next Tuesday's deadline :)
