Senator John W. Warner, Republican of Virginia, the chairman of the Armed Services Committee, said the committee would vote Thursday in a closed session on an alternative that he and his two chief allies Senators Lindsey Graham of South Carolina and John McCain of Arizona have championed, even if the White House refuses to go along with them. The senators have said changes to the American interpretation of the provision of the Geneva Conventions, known as Common Article 3, would undermine the nations international credibility and open the way for other countries to treat captured American troops at their whim.
This is not about November 2006. It is not about your election. It is about those who take risks to defend America, Mr. Graham said.

The scary thing is that w McCain is really concerned about the "rights" of terrorists but he has shown he has no similar concern when it comes to the rights of the rest of us. McCain is the only GOP candidate for president that I can think of that would make me stay at home in 2008.

McCain is the only GOP candidate for president that I can think of that would make me stay at home in 2008. I would still go to the polls, but I would NOT vote for McCain!

re: I would still go to the polls, but I would NOT vote for McCain!
I would probably just do a write-in rather than vote for McCain or the Dem. nominee.
It's going to be up to us to make certain that the GOP nominee is not Sen. McCain.
I know I will take a lot of heat for it, but my hands-down choice is Newt. I don't bother to try to convince others that he is the person for the times. Many dislike him because of his personal life. I don't want to let his personal foibles deprive us of someone who has many offsetting positives. His sense of history, and his realization of its importance to us, is unique.

LOL...Newt is one of my Top picks as well!

Well, I guess it's settled...McCain doesn't have a prayer for the nomination! Good riddance.

This is terrible to admit but as one who is disgusted with Newt's marital fidelity practices I find myself musing at times that it would still be great if he won the election. It troubles me that I really think this way.
