SALT LAKE CITY Down through the years there has been a remarkable relationship between American presidents and British prime ministers. Churchill and Roosevelt. Thatcher and Reagan. Blair and Bush. Here is how one American president admiringly described one of those prime ministers:
"Whereas [he] ... has been throughout his life a firm and steadfast friend of the American people and the American nation; and....
"Whereas his bravery, charity and valor, both in war and peace, have been a flame of inspiration in freedom's darkest hour; and
"Whereas his life has shown that no adversary can overcome, and no feat can deter, free men in the defense of their freedom....
"Now therefore I, ... President of the United States of America, under the authority contained in an Act of the 88th Congress, do hereby declare [him] an honorary citizen of the United States of America."
The president was John F. Kennedy. The prime minister receiving honorary US citizenship was Sir Winston Churchill, who had a remarkable wartime relationship with President Franklin Roosevelt.

Excellent idea. We owe Tony Blair much.
Give it to Maggie, too.
We might owe Blair political asylum if Gordon Brown takes office.
***Give it to Maggie, too.***
Ohhhhhhhhh, you're right. She was PM, too. She deserves it.
Did you notice Maggie was here to commemorate 9-11? V.P. Cheney escorted her out of the White House to stand with him and Mrs. Cheney for a moment of silence. Maggie is as stalwart as ever despite her frail health. What a Dame!
I met Maggie over here about 7 months ago at a private function (Well if you going to 'drop a name'it might as well be a good one).
Alert, witty and entertaining. And also gracious enough to insist that her guests allowed me to take their pictures with her before dinner and allow me time to get home and have mine with my family.
A real 'Trooper'.
Don't do it till he's gone. It would be the kiss of death for his current standing given British attitudes.
