My oldest daughter had an FSU professor tell her class that Arafat was a great freedom fighter and a great man. I almost blew a front seal. I re-taught her the history of the PLO and told her to ignore the rants of liberal professors. She had a big "W" on her dorm door back in 2004. It didn't last long before it was torn down. So much for free speech on campus.
Loathsome. And as a public university, I suspect that FSU is violating the law under these circumstances.
It wasnt until I enrolled in an Islam course, and met Professor Vincent Biondo, that I understood exactly whom conservatives were directing their complaints against. His teaching style was unique; if a student asked him a question hed simply respond, Great question, and move on without providing an answer. In the beginning his comments were innocent enough; hed make wild allegations such as, Islam was responsible for the European Renaissance, or, Muslims invented the light bulb, an accomplishment generally credited to either Joseph Wilson Swan or Thomas Edison. These comments didnt offend me, and I typically rolled my eyes and laughed them away.
However, as the course continued it became clear that we were only learning one side of Islam.
Learning about the Renaissance does not teach one about Islam. It can teach one about the role of Islam IN the Renaissance in some capicity, but it does not teach about the principles of Islam or the history of the stories in the Koran. Same with the light bulb.
I was quite lucky at FSU. I was a Political Science major and it was through the teachings of many of my professors that I gained an appreciation for conservative politics.
Mohammed married a 6-year old.
That's the wonderful thing about Engineering courses. Not many political views can be put into a steam table or fluid dynamics!
I'll admit, UF had a lot more liberal kook professors than FSU. Sometimes it felt like I was at Berkeley.
BTTT
(Go SEMINOLES!!!!!) :)
Typical Liberal. If it had been Biondo's child, it would have been a whole different thing.
But since he's opened the door, I wonder if I can go and steal his car and all his possessions, then tell him I am a Gypsy and it is "part of my culture?"
Wow, amazing what you can get away with today in terms of smearing people in a politically correct way.
CAIR would be torn over this one. Do they tear down a professor who is an apologist for them?
Hold your tongue about your politics (or religion) or else suffer a lesser grade that could affect future employment.
As a Christian, I'd have to confess that "my culture" sets a standard to also give that thief my cloak. It's a hard standard to live up to.
Their are some who take because they seriously "need". There are also some who take simply because they are greedy, mean, slothful, evil, and exploitive.
According to Biando's logic, that's OK as long as it is "part of their culture."
Which was my point.
True. I was just contrasting it with "my culture" (which sets a standard for generosity but does not mean that I have to turn myself into an exploited victim).
And there ARE theiving gypsies in America.
And what this instructor says is completely at odds with all morality.
Most of the far-out leftist professors infect the degree programs for which there is little to no hope of private sector employment
