Catholics protest "immaculately transmitted rash" comic strip Cavalier Daily The Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights and others are complaining about two "Quirksmith" comic strips that recently ran in the University of Virginia's Cavalier Daily. One has the Virgin Mary and Joseph talking about an "immaculately transmitted" rash. The second, titled "Christ on a Cartesian Plane," depicts the Crucifixion with a parabolic graph superimposed on the figure of Christ. Newspaper's editors say they won't apologize for the comic strips (CD)

It appears as if the school administrators have no authority over the school newspaper.

Dream scenario:
Administration tells editors they will eliminate funding and deny use of school name unless the editors run cartoons about Mohammed.

If it had been cartoons making fun of ole Mohammed(may a MOAB be upon him), the school officials would be all over the kids who put out that paper.

immaculately transmittedBesides the stupidity, what is this supposed to mean anyway? It doesn't make any sense with regards to the meaning of the word.

They think "Immaculate Conception" refers to Jesus' being conceived miraculously, without sexual intercourse.
Ideally, we'd feel nothing but pity for such egregiously ignorant people with such ugly hearts and filthy minds ... but I confess I'd love the opportunity to throw up on their shoes.

Let's burn a mosque instead. At least be productive.

No, that is the Incarnation. The Immaculate Conception is the Blessed Virgin Mary "in the first instance of her conception, by a singular privilege and grace granted by God, in view of the merits of Jesus Christ, the Saviour of the human race, was preserved exempt from all stain of original sin." - Constitution Ineffabilis Deus of 8 December, 1854, Pius IX

Meh, there are plenty of things printed in the Cav Daily that could be considered offensive by one group or another, so I don't find this any more shocking that anything else I've seen in it. It's a college paper, college kids love to exercise their right to freedom of speech to extremes.
Some other comics that have appeared over the years:
Muslims being portrayed with the stereotypical beard and turban, and as quick to condemn and unforgiving:

I was wondering that, too.It seems to me that in trying to make a crude "joke" about the Catholic faith, it only shows the absolute ignorance of the "writer" that he doesn't even know what he is trying to make fun of.

Why is the Muslim's face blacked out?

The KofC sword is far too light, and hasn't sufficient of an edge for beheading. OTOH, the point is quite pointy ... one would have very little trouble at all running someone through with it.

You'll have to ask the artist, I'm not sure how to intrepret it. (The black box over the Muslim's face was on the original comic, it was not censored by the editors.)

If that is the case they are true cowards in the line of South Park. Don't bash the muslims because your head may become separated from your shoulders.

Pray in reparation for the sins and outrages against the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
Hail Mary, full of grace
the Lord is with thee,
blessed art thou amongst women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death,
Amen.

I'll admit that I haven't watched the show in five years - what prompted that?
