Shame they could not have stuck it out to finish college. The Corps needs good officers as well as grunts.

At any rate, good on 'em.

What a great story. Thanks for sharing it.

And a big ol' heartfelt THANK YOU to the brothers. God go with you, boys!

There are some officers who started out as enlisted and worked their way through the ranks. In the Navy, they were referred to as "Mustangs". Most Naval officers were, however, college educated.

"If you have a college degree you get to be an officer?"

Yup, you sure do.

Also we enlisted folks had to go to boot camp and our officers went to summer camp.

Our only liberty for 13 weeks was a choice; Every Sunday morning we could either wash our clothers or go to church and wash our clothes after lights out. The officers had liberty every other weekend.

I don't know, I've been out of the Corps since '78.

I do know that Sgt Majors caught bullets with their teeth.
Lower ranked enlisted men stayed out of the way of flying lead.
And Lieutenants wet themselves at loud noises.

I know, but try telling that to the rest of the nation. NJ is just the punchline to every joke for them.

A half decade ago, in another war, this would not have been a unique story.

You have something against military officers? My husband was a Naval Aviator. He didn't *wet himself*. He served proudly and with great courage.

I love the recruit wearing his "poolie" shirt for the photo.

Depending on when the arrive at MCRD Parris Island, they may be graduating right around Christmas. That would be a holiday for them and their family to remember for the rest of their lives!

Ladies, the "golden foot-prints" await your arrival!

Ooorah!
