an election-year compromise

Not a compromise if a veto couldn't be overridden and at last count it couldn't.

Isn't it interesting how the most inflated market areas in the country always seem to have some inflationary government influence? This will bump up prices a bit at the fast food joints (unless they hire illegals 'under the table') and small outfits.

That sure is going to help when everybody is paying 95.6% on their income in taxes to care for the illegal aliens and free health care for the Berkley professors.

Well, if they made it $80, there'd be nobody else left.

Then they could tax them to pay them.

Martha Sanchez, head of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN), said Schwarzenegger had no choice but to sign the minimum wage law. Schwarzenegger is a Republican in a state where the majority of voters are Democrat or independent, and is struggling to rebound from his disastrous special election last fall.

Hey... Does Martha Sanchez operate the FairOpinion account? They have the same talking points.

Apparently all of these leftist moves will just be characterized as "compromise" and "bipartisanship", notwithstanding the 100% opposition by Republican legislators.

Nobody in CA works for $8/hour. They can't.

Have'nt for a while now.

McDonalds starts kids at $8.50-$9/hour in Sacramento. Don't even want to think about what it costs in the big citys.

Window washing starts at $10/hour.

So the only real thing this does is change the pay rate for those few union types who's pay is some % of minimum.

Is California actively trying to destroy all their jobs?

It certainly seems that way, doesn't it?

Nope. Just the businesses that create them. That way, all that's left would be the government to work for. And given how efficient that particular "business" is run, all I can say is, "Welcome to Kalifornia, Komrade."

A lot of people work in california for minimum wage, all you need to do is come down near the border, 6.80 is the starting for fast foods.. and many other retail jobs pay that as well..

Exactly. This is a law that will have almost no practical effect on California business, helps Schwarzengger with the all-important "He cares about people like me!" poll question, and takes the issue off the table for the Democrats.

He is struggling to rebound? I thought he was up a fair amount in his re-election bid. Sounds like more MSM wishful thinking.
