SEATTLE – Around 7:30 p.m. Monday, KING 5 News' phones started to ring as viewers reported seeing a ball of flames shooting across the skies of Western Washington.

The calls came in mostly from Pierce and Kitsap counties.

Michael Witig and his wife were out barbecuing when they saw something streaking through the sky. They kept rolling as the fiery tail grew behind the mystery object.

KING 5 News contacted the Air Force, FAA, National Weather Service and other local authorities, but could not immediately find an explanation for what streaked across the sky and what was caught on tape.

Wind

plus, if it's way high up, that turn ain't so tight, even if the contrail isn't distorted after the fact by wind.

Have you ever seen the smoke trail behind the Shuttle as it goes up? In very short order it's all over the sky, making it look like the thing took a crazy zig zag course.

btw, at almost the same time in New Zealand, there was a sonic boom and a fiery object they called a meteorite. there were reports that it 'crash landed' in NZ somewhere. I haven't found any further info.

odd to see objects entering the earth at the same time from different directions.

As for wind turning the object, that's a bit much. i could try to believe a super heat gas venting like a jet turning its direction... but the turn out continue into a spiral and not stop as it levels out.

were there any reports as to the exact trajectory? was it west to east or north to south? anyone see other stories of it impacting somewhere in the US or canada?

Maybe it's a UFO?

Can you identify it? Then QED.

Don't be silly - of course it's not a UFO.

Extraterrestrial spacecraft use gravitophotonic field propulsion drives that don't leave contrails. Everybody knows that.

I thought it was common knowledge that Roswell was a crashed 'spy balloon'--one of hundreds being used to monitor the Russians.

It is...for those willing to accept the facts. It was a balloon used to monitor Russian nuclear tests and the crash was hushed-up for national security reasons: no point in letting the enemy know how we were "listening-in."

This Roswell thing amuses me no end. I'm old enough to remember the actual incident (I was young at the time). I've always been interested in the possibility of extraterrestrial visitors and have followed the story over the years. The myth grows and grows with layer upon layer of newly-invented "detail," as folks cash in on human gullibility. It's a bonanza for the town of Roswell and Hollywood entrepreneurs.

'Daddy of all booms' rattles south

The hunt is on for fragments of a spectacular meteor that shot through the skies above Canterbury yesterday, causing a sonic boom that shook buildings and terrified residents.
