If the Filipinos would have let the USA help them get back on their feet in redeveloping their country after WWII and if Marcos would not have plundered their country, they would have been in better shape than they are now.
One thing that the Philippines has going for them is that they have lucrative natural resources ( not sure if they have oil though ).
